Next-generation Technology Leaders Showcase Innovations

The Stevens Institute of Technology 2013 Innovation Expo on April 24, 2013 was a tremendous success, with over 120 multidisciplinary teams each showcasing the innovative technology they produced over a year’s collaborative effort. The resulting products included various unmanned and remotely controlled vehicles, biomedical devices, mobile apps, robots, and numerous ingenious inventions.

Each project solved a problem or addressed a social need, and several of them were awarded prizes in design competitions around the country. At the request of a surgeon, the NEVROS team developed microrobots to help improve dexterity and freedom during complex spinal surgeries, for which they were awarded 1st prize at the ISPE NJ competition. AquaNOW, a solar-powered water purifier, won 1st prize at the AWWA NJ competition. Team Red Bird’s Advanced Heavy Lift Cargo Plane took the Best Oral Presentation award as well as 5th place overall at the SAE Aero Design West Competition. A Stevens team also competed strongly in the International Shell Eco-marathon, finishing 12th in the battery electric prototype division.
