Freshman Mark Lippert of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, it was announced Thursday afternoon.
Lippert was a key contributor for the Ducks as they won a fourth-straight Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) title and second-straight Empire 8 Championship.
He placed second at the Empire Championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:09.29) to earn second-team all-conference honors, placing seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.95) and 16th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.33) as well.
At the ECAC meet, Lippert clocked an NCAA B-cut in placing second in the 1,650, 12th in the 200 and sixth in the 500, earning valuable points for the Ducks in both championship meets.
“Mark worked hard to prepare himself for his freshman season, and the results showed,” said Head Coach Brad Thornton. “He has matured immensely this season, and I’m excited to see him grow as a student-athlete over the next three years.”
Lippert marks the third Duck to earn Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors, joining John Hu and Wesley Elford as the other recipients in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
