Learn how to cite websites, articles, and more. Topics include: correctly integrating sources in your essay and avoiding plagiarism. Bring a draft to get the most out of this hands-on workshop.


Writing and Reading Skills for Humanities

for all CAL students


Topics covered: close reading of a text, planning and structuring a humanities paper. This information can be applied to other types of essays within the humanities. 



Developing Revision and Editing Strategies

for all students


Covers the most common grammar mistakes in college writing, how to recognize them, and methods of correction. Bring a draft to get the most out of this hands-on workshop.



Grammar for English Language Learners

Learn about the difficult aspects of English grammar: articles, prepositions, count/non-count nouns, and tenses. Learn strategies to identify and correct written accents.



Speaking Clearly for English Language Learners


Learn tips and strategies to improve pronunciation and enunciation. Topics covered: muscle-building exercises, word stress and intonation patterns.



Applying for Fellowships


Learn to write a successful fellowship application.  Topics covered: the search process, components of personal and research statements, common pitfalls.



Basics of Technical Writing


Learn the three Cs of technical writing: Clarity, Conciseness, and Correctness. Topics include: seamless incorporation of tables, figures, and formulas into documents. 



Delivering Effective Presentations


Learn ways to improve your presentation skills. Topics include: creating effective PowerPoints, coping with anxiety, improving delivery, eye contact, and developing poise.



Graduate School Application

Learn how to: begin the process of writing a personal statement, revise for clarity, and avoid common mistakes such as using clichés and telling rather than showing.



Preparing to Publish


Topics include: Preparing to publish, selecting a journal, dealing with rejection, and revising for resubmission.



Resumes and Cover Letters


Learn how to: craft accomplishment statements, design effective layouts, write effective cover letters. Bring a copy of your resume and cover letter to take advantage of this hands-on workshop.
