Stevens Institute of Technology Wins the Best Undergraduate Engineering Management Program for 2013
Stevens Institute of Technology has received the prestigious National Award for Excellence in Academic Leadership of Undergraduate Education Programs in Engineering Management by the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). For the second time in the last decade, Stevens has been honored by ASEM for developing the finest Engineering Management Program in the United States. The award, presented to Stevens at the 2013 ASEM International Annual Conference held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a testimonial of Stevens commitment and accomplishment in understanding and designing the highest standards of academic programs that fit the needs of the new age systems engineer.
“ASEM is the national society that speaks for engineering management, and we are extremely honored and gratified by this recognition from our peers,” said Dinesh Verma, dean, School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens. “Engineering Management has had a long legacy of excellence at Stevens and our vision is to grow, and to continue to find innovative methods that make the program more meaningful and relevant for our students and faculty.”
“At Stevens, we have a simple strategy - we consistently strive to develop and offer an inter-disciplinary educational platform that is innovative and progressive. Our students use technological, quantitative tools of engineering for creating innovative business solutions that can be applied to the process, the product or the production,” said Kathryn Abel, industry professor and director, undergraduate academics, School of Systems and Enterprises.
In the 21st century, the role of the engineer has undergone a paradigm shift. Technology spaces such as networks, informatics and gaming are growing exponentially and the demand to produce high quality, cost efficient, technically complex systems, products and processes in these sectors is extensive and challenging.
“In the current environment, enterprises need engineers who are technically sound and have a clear understanding of the integration of engineering, technology and business operations. The goal of our engineering management program is to create engineers who will build on the traditional roles of systems analysis and basic and applied sciences by utilizing quantitative analysis to create effective and efficient management functions in a technical setting,” Abel summed up.
