The 4th annual graduation ceremony at L-3 Communications in Greenville, TX, which recognized 15 students for earning their Master's in Engineering in Systems Engineering, was held on December 15, 2010. These 15 students bring the total number of Stevens Institute of Technology MESE graduates at L-3 to 56; 48 from Greenville and 8 from Waco.
The L-3 Integrated Systems Group (L-3 IS) is recognized internationally as a systems integration organization specializing in the modernization and maintenance of aircraft of all sizes, and the study, design, development, and integration of special-mission systems for military and commercial applications. Headquartered in Rockwall, Texas, L-3 IS has operations throughout the world.
The L-3 IS business operation's expertise spans the design, development, and integration of advanced avionics, special purpose airborne systems and aircraft modernization for government and commercial customers worldwide.
In his remarks to the graduates, Jim Gibson, VP Engineering for L-3 Communications MID congratulated them not just for earning a degree but for mastering a discipline. He noted that previous graduates have gone on to leadership positions as Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, Directors, Senior Directors and Senior Managers and told them he considered them the leadership and the future of L-3.
Ashley Luttrell, a 2009 graduate of the program, traced her development from Aero Engineer to Systems Engineer to Program Manager, a journey that she told the graduates would not have been possible were it not for the Stevens Systems Engineering master's program. She stressed the value she found not only in what she learned in the classes, but in the many relationships and the broad network she had developed through the program.
Dr. Mike Pennotti, SSE Associate Dean for Academics, represented Stevens at the ceremony.
“It is great to know that there are 35 more L-3 students in the pipeline – and we will welcome an additional nine who will be joining in January,” said Dr. Pennotti. “I'm already looking forward to the 2011 graduation!”
