Mobile Computing Applications Platform – Apps Centric Approach for Improving Emergency First Response

MCAP is a vehicle-centric, low-cost and sustainable platform to address the mobile communication and computing needs for the joint emergency operations, including joint incident management, real-time situational awareness, and mobile command and control. Sponsored under a U.S. Army R&D program, MCAP exploits advances in commercial mobile broadband networks and off-the-shelf smart devices such as tablets and smartphones to foster an eco-system of partners developing mission-enabling apps. MCAP platform is designed with integration and interoperability in mind. MCAP is replacing the traditional top-down, heavy governance models with Apps marketplace-based approaches that enable eco-system partners to develop apps that are interoperable by design. I plan to intersperse the talk with a live demonstration of the platform.
2013 MCAP Apps Competition - Under the effort, we are sponsoring an Apps Competition (http://portal.emcap.us/developers/app-competition) to engage cooperating developers-at-large. I will introduce the competition and provide additional details.
Dr. Ashish Jain (ajain “at” appcomsci.com) is a Senior Scientist and the Director of the Mobile Applications and Services Engineering Research Group at Applied Communication Sciences, Basking Ridge, NJ. His current research efforts have focused on developing secure Enterprise Mobile App Stores. He is the Principal Investigator for the MCAP R&D effort and is also the platform’s lead architect. He brings more than 15 years’ experience managing projects in the area of fixed and mobile communication services and platforms. He is also currently consulting with a major European Tier-1 communications carrier on the design of their next generation converged mobile and fixed services delivery platform.
