Dr. Clifton Baldwin was selected as the 2010 Outstanding Engineer of the Year by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) of Southern New Jersey Professional Societies. This nomination was based on research and accomplishments that advance the systems engineering body of knowledge related to system-of-systems (SoS) and complex systems.
Dr. Baldwin's research covers the collaborative behavior of a SoS mathematically and validates it using “agent-based modeling.” The mathematical model provides definitions to commonly associated, yet ambiguous, terms such as “synergy” and “interoperable.” Systems engineering and system-of-systems engineering (SoSE) will benefit from procedures developed based on this research. Dr. Baldwin has published multiple papers with IEEE documenting SoS research. Clifton is a Senior Systems Engineering at FAA and recent PhD Graduate from Stevens in Systems Engineering.
