On Friday, October 14th, Stevens Institute of Technology will host a premier academic event featuring the U.S. Secretary of Energy and the Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of Bell Labs as part of the inauguration festivities for Dr. Nariman Farvardin’s installation as Stevens’ seventh president.
The Academic Colloquium, Excellence Through Innovation, will focus on how the innovation and entrepreneurial skill set transcends more traditional educational and research approaches that may not be sufficient in training students to address society’s most pressing challenges. Distinguished guests include Dr. Steven Chu, United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Jeong Kim, Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of Bell Labs, and panel moderator Christine Lagorio, Executive Editor of Inc.com.
Dr. Chu will discuss how innovation transforms the world, including the ways in which it has brought us new energy challenges and how technology can help us become more sustainable. Dr. Kim will address the hallmarks and characteristics of technological innovations, including the culture and organizational attributes that give rise to them. After their initial comments, Ms. Lagorio will lead them in a panel discussion with questions regarding the role of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology transfer in the classroom and the university community.
Excellence Through Innovation will be held in the DeBaun Auditorium from 9:00 am to noon on Friday, October 14th. A limited number of tickets are available for this event. For more information, visit /news/content/academic-colloquium.
