Prerna Chatterjee
Sustainability Manager, BASF

How has sustainability and digitalization changed the beauty industry? How is the consumer behavior changing and what has BASF (as a supplier to the beauty industry) done to support the industry?

Prerna has devoted herself to creating business value through Sustainability. Through extensive research and industry interaction, she helps construct and map value chains, identify and prioritize issues, industry trends and benchmark them among competitors on the basis of Sustainability. Prerna has also been named to the 2016 GreenBiz 30 under 30 list which profiles the "best and the brightest people breaking new ground in the world of sustainable business." After her completion of her Mechanical Engineering degree in India, she started her career in Germany working for a swiss manufacturing firm, Oerlikon, as the expert in technical marketing. Passionate about sustainability, she moved to New York City to learn more through her Masters degree in Sustainability Management from Columbia University. Post completion she joined BASF, the worlds leading chemical company contributing to their efforts for corporate sustainability.

Today as the Sustainability Manager for Home and Personal Care, at BASF, Prerna continues to advance BASF’s leadership in the area of sustainability by creating marketing concepts and solutions to meet customers‘ needs in areas such as : sustainable sourcing, natural ingredients, eco certifications and value chain analysis and more. Recently, she conceptualized and developed BASF’s Ingredient Insider Tool – the first tool in the beauty and personal care industry that addresses ingredient transparency to support brands.
