Is Philosophy Obsolete? A Center for Science Writings Event

Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, author of "Plato at the Googleplex: Why Philosophy Won't Go Away"

Plato at the Googleplex by Rebecca Goldstein

Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, who earned a doctorate in philosophy from Princeton, has explored philosophical conundrums in 10 books, including fiction and non-fiction. She won a MacArthur "Genius" grant in 1996 and received the National Humanities Medal from President Barack Obama in 2015. She is visiting Stevens to talk about Plato at the Googleplex: Why Philosophy Won't Go Away, which makes the case for the abiding relevance of philosophy by imagining how Plato would react to the modern world, and vice versa. The Wall Street Journal praises Plato at the Googleplex for its "historical scholarship, lively presentation, vernacular dialogue, and intellectual passion."
