Cailin O’Connor and James Weatherall, philosophers at the University of California at Irvine, will discuss their new book The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread. The book explores how social factors, which can be manipulated by industrial and political agents, contribute to the persistence and spread of false beliefs. George Musser of Scientific American calls The Misinformation Age “an important book for an era of weaponized information.”
This event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Letters' Center for Science Writings, which regularly invites writers, scientists, engineers, philosophers and scholars to Stevens to discuss science-related issues. Learn more about the center and its upcoming events by clicking here.
