The fall Sustainability Seminar Series continues on November 28 with the talk "Business Considerations for Investing in Renewable Energy" by Michael Perna of Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses.
Renewable energy, predominantly in the form of solar and wind technologies, has experienced explosive growth in the U.S. and many other countries worldwide. This growth has been driven by an increased focus on sustainability and by the favorable economics of renewable energy, a combination that has accelerated the adoption of these low-carbon methods of generating electricity. This presentation will cover the evolution of solar and wind over the past decade, touching on advancements in technology, policy, and economics and discuss analysts’ expectations for the future. It will also address business considerations for both purchasers and developers of renewable energy projects, providing insight into the elements of commercial terms that are important for both sides of the buyer/seller relationship.
Michael Perna is responsible for managing the growth strategy and business expansion initiatives for the Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses–Con Edison Development, Con Edison Energy and Con Edison Solutions. The three businesses operate across the United States, developing solar and wind energy assets, and providing energy management and energy efficiency services. In addition, he leads marketing and communications functions including brand management, advertising, lead generation, and media relations for the companies.
In 1993, Perna was awarded an industrial program fellowship in customer systems at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Washington, D.C. Other professional recognition includes the PSEG Corporate Excellence Award, which he received in 1994 and in 1997. Perna holds an MBA from the Silberman College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University and a B.E. with honors from Stevens Institute of Technology.
