The Stevens Technical Enrichment Program (STEP) serves as the “informal home” for undergraduates from underrepresented and other diverse backgrounds. It provides the students with a comfortable and supportive environment in which to express themselves, and responds to their needs with guidance, support services and special programs.
STEP is also the home of the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), Program, a financial aid program for New Jersey residents who meet state established financial and academic requirements.
“Connect Students to Success” is the mission of STEP. The department offers STEP and EOF students with support and assistance to achieve their academic, personal and career goals. The students are provided with Academic Support, Advising, Counseling, and Professional Development opportunities. The annual Summer Bridge Experience for incoming STEP and EOF freshmen is an outstanding component of the program which facilitates the students successful transition to the university. Events such as the Fall Cultural Celebration, Spring Conference and Alumni Networking Day, and Senior Farewell and Dinner serve to help the students expand their leadership and entrepreneurial skills, foster their creative thinking, and celebrate their individual and collective contributions to the campus. Students in STEP are active in all areas within the campus community including campus leaders, scholars, athletes, artists, and ambassadors.
STEP staff often serve as formal and informal advisers to four premier student organizations: Black Student Union (BSU), Latin American Association (LAA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
