Stevens has always been committed to promoting and achieving sustainable transportation practices to, from, and around campus, taking steps to reduce vehicular traffic to Hoboken while also reducing our carbon footprint.
We have done this by expanding our shuttle program, increasing bike parking spaces, and promoting cleaner alternatives to fossil fuel vehicles (such as the recent installation of five electric vehicle chargers in the Babbio Center Garage and the replacement of two inefficient fossil fuel vehicles with electric and hybrid vehicles).
Through Rethink Your Ride, its Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program, Stevens is promoting alternative means for accessing the campus to those employees presently driving alone to campus and to new members of the Stevens community. Promoting public transportation and rideshare usage, introducing increased bicycle parking and sharing, and providing better walking and biking paths will create a more human-centered and sustainable campus.
Rethink Your Ride’s main initiative is the Going Green Commuter Club. The Going Green Commuter Club is for Stevens employees who agree to help the environment by not driving alone to campus. In exchange for this commitment, members of the commuter club are eligible for transit reimbursements, free carpool parking, free annual memberships to JerseyBike and Zipcar, and more. Current employees interested in learning more about the Going Green Commuter Club should visit myStevens.
