The mission of the Office of Residential Education is to provide safe and inclusive communities that foster meaningful relationships and create opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. 

Residential Engagement

The Residential Engagement Model is a curricular approach to living at Stevens Institute of Technology, both on campus and within leased housing. The development of this residential curriculum is founded in theory and supports the goals, missions, and values of Stevens, the Department of Student Affairs, and the Office of Residential Education. At the core, it is designed to intentionally support student learning, both in and outside of the classroom, and utilize staff as not only a resource for students but also educators as well.

Educational Priority 

Through intentional connections, innovative programming, and socially just engagement initiatives, the residential experience inspires personal development, academic engagement, intercultural exploration, and social responsibility to develop engaged global citizens during their time at Stevens and beyond.

Educational Values

Personal Development
Personal development is the students’ process of continued exploration from self-awareness towards self-authorship. Through this process, students will be able to identify and express their own values and beliefs to develop a sense of belonging at Stevens. These skills will also allow students to create a support system to aid in their academic and personal successes as well as build and maintain meaningful relationships.

Academic Engagement
Academic engagement refers to the students’ opportunity to guide their own curricular experience. Through this process, students will take responsibility for their own learning by identifying and utilizing resources that will support their academic success, and ultimate career goals.

Intercultural Exploration
Intercultural exploration allows students the opportunity to engage in diverse communities centered in mutual respect and appreciation. Students will participate in dialogues across difference, challenging conflicting values and ideology to create connections and spaces for social change.

Social Responsibility
Social responsibility creates a space for students to have a positive impact as both local and global citizens. Students will engage in service and leadership opportunities that support the values of advocacy and accountability for self and others for a more enriching personal and professional experience.
