Meadowlands Expo Center
All CDC and State of New Jersey COVID-19 precautions will be in place. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each ceremony, and each ceremony will be approx. one hour. Masks must be worn inside the Expo Center at all times, except when a formal picture is being taken on the stage. All graduates and guests enter the main lobby and then are separated into two different sets of doors. Do not bring any personal items with you that you do not expect to carry with you for the entire ceremony - there are no lockers or areas to leave items. MEC is completely handicapped accessible, but no wheelchairs will be available for loan - guests must bring their own. The Stevens Bookstore and other vendors will not be present due to COVID-19 restrictions, but graduates may order merchandise online from the Stevens Bookstore ahead of time. Finally, balloons are not allowed within the Expo Center at all - please do not bring them.
All graduates who have RSVP'd for walking in a ceremony will be allowed to invite up to two guests to the ceremony. Instructions on how to order tickets will be texted to the graduates on May 11th or 12th, along with how to add yourself to the lottery system for extra tickets. All seats are singly set (social distanced) and everyone, no matter the age, must have a ticket to enter the venue. The 2 allotted tickets per graduate walking in the ceremony must be claimed by Midnight on Sunday, May 16th. Any unused tickets on May 17th will be put into the lottery and distributed appropriately to those on the lottery list.
Guests with special needs, please contact [email protected] with any questions/concerns. Also, cars with handicap tags can park in the lot immediately underneath MEC.
For those who cannot attend in person, Stevens will live-stream all ceremonies so that friends and family can join virtually. The link to the live-stream will be posted on this website on May 24, 2021. The live-stream will also be recorded and available on the Stevens YouTube site in early June.
Transportation and Parking
Those traveling from out of state or country must follow all current quarantine protocols established by the State of New Jersey. All of our plans are subject to change at any time based on guidance from the CDC and the State of New Jersey. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Stevens will not be providing bus transportation to and from campus to the Meadowlands Expo Center (MEC) for the ceremonies. However, there is plenty of free parking available in lots next to MEC, and it is only a short ride for Uber and Lyft from Hoboken and Jersey City.
Wearing academic regalia (robes, hoods, caps, tassels) to participate in a Commencement ceremony is required. Due to time and shipping constraints, academic regalia orders are no longer being taken. If you did not order your regalia, we recommend you speak to friends who recently graduated and borrow their regalia, or find a place to purchase online. Graduate regalia is black robe, mortar board and tassel, and the hood is maroon/silver striped for Stevens, with either gold (science), orange (engineering), or drab (business) as the outer, velvet color.
If you did not receive your order yet from Oak Hall, please read this announcement from their offices:
"Due to increased demand and delayed shipments, it will take longer than expected to ship your regalia. We apologize for the delay. However, if you ordered by April 20th, you will have your Cap & Gown in time for your ceremonies. Orders are expected to ship by May 17th at the very latest (to be received in time by the first ceremony.) If you do not receive a tracking email by May 17th from Oak Hall, please contact us at 1-800-456-7623 or [email protected]. Currently our customer service lines are overwhelmed with questions, so we kindly ask that you do not call prior to May 17th. Thank you - we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding."
Senior Portraits and Yearbooks
Thornton Studios are taking senior portraits for the yearbook on campus at DeBaun Auditorium on May 10 - May 14, May 17-19, and June 1-3. There is a $5 sitting fee for this picture, and all COVID-19 restrictions are in place (mask wearing, social distancing, etc.). Only students are allowed to come to campus for the pictures (no family/friends), and 10 minute time slots can be schedule on the Thornton website: http://s.thorntonstudio.com/Scheduling/login.aspx using access code: 02639. If you previously choose a date/time and would like to change it, you can do so automatically by just picking a new date/time. If you have questions about this or other yearbook issues, please email the yearbook staff at the [email protected] (allow 3 business days for a reply - thank you.)
For the ceremonies, Island Photography will be taking pictures of each graduate before, during and after they walk across the sage. Island will be in touch with each graduate on how to purchase pictures that are taken during the ceremonies.
Senior Class Gift and Senior Week Committee
The Senior Week Committee is comprised of members of the graduating class, and they work in various ways to help the seniors leave their legacy at Stevens by planning social, spirit, and philanthropic events for the graduating class. For upcoming events, check out their website: www.stevens.edu/seniorweek. Based on a survey conducted by the committee, the Class of 2021 has chosen to support the Stevens Rises Relief Fund, which provides relief to students facing the unexpected due to the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, each Senior who makes a gift of $20.21 or more will automatically receive a one-of-a-kind Senior Donor Cord to wear during commencement celebrations. For more information and to donate, please see our website: astrafunding.stevens.edu/seniorweek2021
