GradFest 2020 combines students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and guests in a celebration of our soon-to-be-graduates! GradFest 2020 will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include live music, free food, picture opportunities, give-aways, and end with fireworks on the river! In addition, the Stevens Bookstore will be open late for last minute gifts. No RSVP or tickets necessary, and all parking lots are open for use.
Commencement Ceremonies will be held at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. There will be 2 ceremonies – the Undergraduate Ceremony for all bachelor’s degree candidates will be held at 11:00 a.m., and the Graduate Ceremony for Ph.D. and master’s degree candidates at 4:00 p.m. Each ceremony will last approximately 2.5 hours.
The doors open at the Expo Center 1 hour prior to each ceremony. Refreshments and flowers will be on sale before each ceremony, and the Stevens Bookstore will be selling Stevens memorabilia and gifts in the lobby. Balloons and outside food and drink are prohibited. Further information on the Meadowlands Expo Center can be found at mecexpo.com along with local hotels and restaurants.
Each graduating student can order up to six (6) guest tickets to the commencement ceremony. Every guest, no matter the age, MUST have a ticket to enter the venue. Two of the six guest ticket allotment can be used for ADA-Accessible tickets, available for those in need of handicapped or wheelchair accessible seating. Tickets will be available for online ordering after Spring Break in March.
Please note that if you would like additional tickets, guest tickets are transferable from student to student. If a graduating student is not using all of their tickets, or not walking in the ceremony, they can foward their guest tickets to someone else. We suggest talking to your classmates for extra tickets. The Office of University Events does not have any extra tickets to distribute to either ceremony.
Live Video Stream of Ceremony
Both ceremonies will be live streamed, and the video can be accessed from this website on Commencement Day.
Meadowlands Expo Center has plenty of free parking for graduates and guests. A limited amount of handicapped parking spots will be available near the building for those with proper hang tags. Parking attendants will direct cars to the closest available parking area once you arrive at the Expo Center.
Wheelchair and Handicapped Access
Meadowlands Expo Center is handicapped and wheelchair accessible. A limited amount of handicapped parking spots will be available near the building for those with proper hang tags. Parking attendants will direct cars appropriately. A portion of the commencement ceremony guest ticket allotment can be used for accessibility tickets that will be available for those in need of handicapped and wheelchair accessible seating.
Buses from Campus
Stevens will offer free bus service from campus for graduating students, as well as limited space for faculty, staff and families. Buses will leave campus at 9:15 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m from Jonas Hall and are first come, first served.
Since graduates will have received their academic regalia in advance, we suggest having photographs taken prior to arrival. Guests may take photos and video from the guest seating areas at Meadowlands Expo Center, but guests will not be permitted in the graduate seating area, in the aisles, or on the stage.
Stevens has contracted a professional photographer to take several photos of each graduating student as his/her diploma is being presented. A few weeks after the ceremony, they will email proofs and ordering information to each graduate to their Stevens email address.
If you have guests traveling from outside the U.S., and they require a letter of invitation, you may write an Invitation Letter. ISSS Form Invitation Letter. More information can be found in our Step-by-Step Guide to inviting friends and family to visit you in the U.S.
