There are a number of events, in preparation for commencement, that faculty and staff are invited to attend. Below are those events and specifics on each.
Graduate Awards Ceremony
The Graduate Awards Ceremony (or Provost Awards) is on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic awards to graduating graduate students, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Babbio Atrium.
Undergraduate Awards Ceremony
The Undergraduate Awards Ceremony is on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic and co-curricular awards to members of the graduating senior class, coordinated through the Office of Student Life. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Babbio Atrium.
Faculty Awards & Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony
This recognition event for outstanding faculty and graduating doctoral degree candidates is held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This event is coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs and the Provost's Office. Department directors and faculty advisors are invited to attend and participate. Academic regalia is required for those participating in the ceremony - see below for details picking up rented regalia if you do not own your own set. The annual GradFest will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Join us as we celebrated the Class of 2020 with live music, free food, giveaways and photo opportunities in both areas, ending with fireworks on the river! All faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to participate, and all are welcome, including parents, students and alumni.
Commencement 2020 will take place at the Meadowlands Expo Center, 355 Plaza Drive in Secaucus, New Jersey on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. There will be 2 ceremonies – the Undergraduate Ceremony for all Bachelor Degree candidates will be held at 11:00 a.m., and the Graduate Ceremony for Ph.D. and Master's Degree candidates at 4:00 p.m. Each ceremony should last approximately 2.5 hours.
It is required for all faculty and staff participating in the Commencement Ceremonies and/or the Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony to wear academic regalia (robes, hoods, caps/tams). Details on how to order rental sets of regalia will be posted here in January.
Faculty and Staff Arrival Time
Faculty and Staff members who are walking in the procession should arrive at the Meadowlands Expo Center NO LATER THAN 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. For those arriving in the morning, a light breakfast will be available. A lunch will be served between ceremonies at the nearby Holiday Inn/Urban Plum for those attending both ceremonies.
Meadowlands Expo Center
When you arrive at Meadowlands Expo Center (MEC), please enter through the main doors. A volunteer will be there to guide you to the Faculty/Staff Robing Room. You can leave personal belongings in the Faculty/Staff Robing Room during the ceremonies if you so wish. No ticket is necessary to enter the lobby area. Please note that outside food is not allowed at the MEC, but food will be provided before each ceremony for the Faculty/Staff. The Stevens Bookstore will be on hand, selling Stevens merchandise, and there will also be a flower merchant selling bouquets prior to each ceremony.
Meadowlands Expo Center offers complimentary parking located in parking lots near the facility. Please follow the directions of the attendants as you approach the Expo Center to park in the correct area. No parking pass is necessary for parking.
Stevens will offer free bus service from campus for graduating students, faculty and staff and families. Buses will leave campus at 9:15 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m from Jonas Hall and are first come, first served.
