Stevens graduate candidates from Summer '20, Fall '20 and Spring '21 will celebrate their commencement together in May 2021.

Celebrating the Class of 2021

After much research and in keeping with all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State of New Jersey, we are pleased to announce that Stevens will hold a number of smaller, in-person commencement ceremonies at the Meadowlands Expo Center for the Class of 2021. The current breakdown of ceremonies is as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. - Ph.D. Hooding, Ph.D. Commencement Ceremony, and Faculty Awards Ceremony
  • Wednesday, May 26, 2021 - Four Undergraduate Ceremonies (divided by school and major)
  • Thursday, May 27, 2021 - Three Graduate Ceremonies (divided by school and major)

Please note that Stevens will continue to follow all guidance from the State of New Jersey and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding large gatherings, wearing masks, socially distanced seating, and adhering to New Jersey travel restrictions. All of our plans are subject to change at any time based on guidance from the State of New Jersey.

Faculty and Staff Participation in Ceremonies

Faculty are encouraged to participate in Tuesday's Ph.D. Hooding, Ph.D. Commencement Ceremony, and Faculty Awards Ceremony. Academic robes are not necessary to participate.

However, due to the lowered capacity (COVID-19 restrictions) at the Expo Center, only an extremely limited amount of faculty and staff will be able to participate in the Undergraduate and Graduate Ceremonies on Wednesday and Thursday. The Office of University Events is looking at other ways that faculty and staff can congratulate the Class of 2021 and celebrate with them. Further details will be posted as plans evolve.

Family Members Graduating

Stevens has a tradition of offering faculty/staff members the opportunity to participate in the Commencement Ceremony if a family member and/or spouse is receiving a degree. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place this year, we will not be able to continue this tradition for the Class of 2021.
