Commencement Week

There are a number of events, in preparation for commencement, that faculty and staff are invited to attend. Below are those events and specifics on each.

Graduate Awards Ceremony

The Graduate Awards Ceremony (or Provost Awards) is on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 5 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic awards to graduating graduate students, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Babbio Atrium.

Undergraduate Awards Ceremony

The Undergraduate Awards Ceremony is on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 7 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic and co-curricular awards to members of the graduating senior class, coordinated through the Office of Student Life.  Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Babbio Atrium.

Faculty Awards & Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

This recognition event for outstanding faculty and graduating doctoral degree candidates is held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This event is coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs and the Provost's Office. Department directors and faculty advisors are invited to attend and participate. Student participants should check in to EAS room 329 between 3:30-4:00 pm. Faculty participants should check in to EAS room 222 from 3:45-4:00 pm. 

GradFest 2018

The annual GradFest will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the lawns across campus. GradFest 2018 will feature food, live music, giveaways and photo opportunities. All faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to participate, and all are welcome, including parents, students and alumni. And, at 9:00 p.m. we will celebrate the Class of 2018 with fireworks on the Hudson River! 

 

Commencement 2018

Commencement 2018 will take place at the Meadowlands Expo Center, 355 Plaza Drive in Secaucus, New Jersey on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. There will be 2 ceremonies – the Undergraduate Ceremony for all Bachelor Degree candidates will be held at 11 a.m., and the Graduate Ceremony for Ph.D. and Master's Degree candidates at 4 p.m. Each ceremony should last approximately 2.5 hours.

Meadowlands Expo Center

When you arrive at Meadowlands Expo Center (MEC), please enter through the main doors and go to the first set of conference rooms on your left - Conference Room A&B. You can leave personal belongings in this room during the ceremonies if you so wish. No ticket is necessary to enter the lobby area. Please note that outside food is not allowed at the MEC, but food will be provided before each ceremony for the Faculty/Staff. The Campus Store will be on hand, selling Stevens merchandise, and there will also be a flower merchant selling bouquets prior to each ceremony.

Faculty and Staff Arrival Time

Faculty and Staff members who are walking in the procession should arrive at the Meadowlands Expo Center NO LATER THAN 30 minutes prior to the ceremony. For those arriving in the morning, a light breakfast will be available, and your academic robes/regalia will be brought by the Campus Store to the conference room for robing. A lunch will be served between ceremonies for those attending both ceremonies at the Holiday Inn, with the Board of Trustees and Members of Cabinet.

Parking

Meadowlands Expo Center offers complimentary parking located in parking lots near the facility. Please follow the directions of the attendants as you approach the Expo Center to park in the correct area. No parking pass is necessary for parking.

Bus Transportation

Stevens will offer complimentary bus transporation to and from each ceremony. The buses for the Undergraduate Ceremony leave campus at 9:15 a.m. from Jonas Hall on upper campus, and buses for the Graduate Ceremony leave Jonas Hall at 2:15 p.m. Buses return to campus after each ceremony from the front of the Meadowlands Expo Center.

Academic Regalia

Academic regalia is required to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. If you ordered your regalia with the Campus Store, then it will be ready for you in the Faculty Robing Room at the Meadowlands Expo Center. If you have your own, please bring it with you. If you did not order it, we will have a few extra robes that you can use. There will be staff in the Faculty Robing Room to help with gowns and with lining up for the Academic Procession. 

Social Media

All studnets, parents, families and faculty members can comment and submit pictures during commencement simply by posting a photo to Twitter or Instagram using #StevensClassof2018 #StevensGrad2018 #StevensDucks2018 OR #StevensPride. We'll be projecting your posts on the Stevens Live Social Wall prior to each ceremony, which will be shown on the big screens at Meadowlands Expo Center.
