Robin Hammerman has taught courses in literature and writing at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus as well as The New York City College of Technology. At Stevens she has taught courses in literature and writing since 1999, including The Short Story and Science Fiction. Professor Hammerman has been exclusively teaching first-year students at Stevens since the inception of The Freshman Experience. In her teaching, Professor Hammerman privileges student-centered class discussions and collaborative learning environments in which students with different learning styles may not only excel in the course but also develop a lifelong love of learning for its own sake.
Professor Hammerman demonstrates a strong commitment to academic service. She has been the Director of Membership and Academic Services for The Byron Society of America since 2007 and served on the College English Association's Board of Directors from 2007-2009. Additionally, Professor Hammerman has been the Byron Society of America's liaison to the Modern Language Association since 2007 and she has been the College English Association's Nineteenth Century British Literature division chair since 2006.
