General

Campus Access

  • A. Student populations that will be eligible to take classes on campus include:

    • First-year undergraduate students and transfer students who were eligible to be on campus for the Fall 2020 semester
    • First-year undergraduate and transfer students starting in the Spring 2021 semester
    • Senior undergraduate students who are in their last undergraduate semester in Spring 2021 as per an approved application for candidacy
    • Senior undergraduate students who are in their last undergraduate semester in Summer 2021 as per an updated study plan
    • New graduate students who matriculated in the Fall 2020 semester
    • New graduate students matriculating in the Spring 2021 semester

Students should contact the Office of the Registrar to confirm their academic status. As was the case in the Fall 2020 semester, all students will continue to have the option for completely online learning.

  • A. A student on track to graduate in the Spring 2021 as per an approved application for candidacy or Summer 2021 semester as per an updated study plan is considered a graduating senior and may take courses on campus and live in Stevens housing. Students should contact the Office of the Registrar to determine their status.

  • A. The State of NJ has imposed strict occupancy limits on indoor spaces. These limits impact the number of students who can attend classes in person, utilize labs, the library and athletic facilities and access dining venues and other spaces on campus. Stevens must abide by these regulations and continue efforts to de-densify the campus as a safety precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic. While we would like very much to accommodate all students on campus, Stevens has prioritized the needs of new students who are becoming acclimated to life at Stevens, as well as graduating seniors to experience their final semester on campus.

  • A. Other segments of our student population who may be considered for limited essential on-campus activities in Spring 2021, but not for classes, include:

    • A limited number of student employees as deemed essential by their supervisors; this group may include students who work on campus supporting the residence halls, classroom-based teaching and related activities, and in research labs, including Ph.D. students.
    • A limited number of approved additional students and student populations who are in compliance with health and safety practices and the Stevens Health Honor Code, and based on low infection rates for specific populations, among other factors. Populations that may be considered for limited, non-instructional on-campus activities include: varsity athletes in season for the spring (should competitions be allowed by Stevens and the MAC Conference); students working on design or research projects that require an on-campus presence; and graduate peer mentors. Additional details and the approval processes for these groups will be announced by the beginning of December.
  • A. To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Stevens has established procedures and guidelines to help guide and control visitor and guest access to campus. Information for faculty and staff working 100% remotely, students learning 100% remotely, admissions visitors, vendors, contractors and other campus visitors can be found on the page with information for visitors, contractors and invited guests. No visitors are permitted in Stevens housing, including Stevens students who do not reside in a particular residence hall, without written permission from the Office of Residential Education.

  • A. It is important to underscore that all our plans are subject to change based on health conditions and infection rates at Stevens and within the local community, as well as State and federal government guidance. All plans should be made with this proviso in mind.

Safety Measures

  • A. You can review the measures taken by the university on the health and safety guidelines page.

  • A. Details about the sanitization and disinfection program implemented on campus are available here.

COVID-19 Testing

  • A. Stevens requires weekly COVID-19 testing of all students, faculty and staff who are on campus during the semester, and offers testing on campus. Individuals must be tested no more than five days in advance of their planned return to campus at the start of the Spring 2021 semester, and must self-quarantine until results are received. See the page describing COVID-19 testing protocols for more information on registering for and obtaining these tests. Individuals also have the option to be tested at off-campus testing sites at their own expense.

  • A. If you miss your on-campus testing appointment, you must get a test at an off-campus location and submit those results to Stevens. The Health Services website lists local testing options. See the page describing COVID-19 testing protocols for more information.

  • A. Stevens will be providing additional information in mid-December about the availability of on-campus testing to accommodate students, faculty and staff returning to campus in Spring 2021. In addition, testing sites local to Stevens and Hoboken are listed on the Student Health Services website. New Jersey residents can locate testing information here. Students from other states and countries should check government websites for available testing resources.

  • A. If you regularly come to campus, we encourage you to take advantage of the on-campus testing. Stevens campus community members seeking COVID diagnostic testing with rapid, same-day results should consider using the Riverside Medical test site at 14th Street. The Health Services website lists local testing options. See the page describing COVID-19 testing protocols for more information.

  • A. Attending classes on campus and/or residing in Stevens housing requires mandatory participation in weekly COVID-19 testing, limiting personal travel to and from campus, and compliance with the Stevens Health Honor Code, the Student Code of Conduct and all COVID-19 Policies and Procedures outlined in the Student Handbook. Students who violate the Stevens Health Honor Code will face sanctions up to and including suspension from the campus and Stevens housing, suspension or an expulsion from the institution.

  • A. To access your results online you will need to set up an account.

If you have already set up an account:
Go to https://communicator.changehealthcare.com/ and log in to see your results.

If you have not yet set up an account
Visit https://communicator.changehealthcare.com/ and follow these steps:

    1. Scroll down to “Don’t have an account? And click the “REGISTER” link.
    2. Click “no” to answer the first question (“Do you receive or provide care at a Military Treatment Facility (MTF)?”)
    3. Register as a PATIENT.
    4. Fill in responses to the questions to create your account, check the Terms of Use acknowledgment, and click the NEXT button. Use your cellphone, preferred email address and local address when completing. (This is important so you get reminders for testing and for contact tracing). Then continue to complete the security questions.
    5. Complete the security questions
    6. Click the green button to add your healthcare provider. Enter Bergen New Bridge Medical Center – do not enter a zip code.
    7. Your application will be reviewed and accepted (acceptance occurs during business hours M-F), and you will then receive an email to complete the setup for the patient portal to access your results. Please follow the link in the email to complete the setup.

Once your account has been set up, you can go to https://communicator.changehealthcare.com/ and log in to see your results.

  • A. You can contact Change Healthcare Support at 866-735-2963 around the clock for assistance with your password and locked account.

Miscellaneous

  • A. Information on parking can be found in the Transportation and Parking section of the Stevens website.

  • A. For the Spring 2021 Semester, work study positions are available both remotely and in-person. For those students who are living or taking classes on campus, work-study positions can either be performed in-person or remotely. Students who are not taking classes on campus can only apply for work study positions that can be performed remotely unless the employment is considered essential and work must be performed on campus. A full listing of work-study positions including their remote/in-person status will be available prior to the start of the semester on the Stevens Careers page.

  • A. The availability of athletic facilities will be communicated and may change based on the positive cases that result from weekly testing results.

Students

Academics

  • Information pertaining to classroom, scheduling, online learning, research and more can be found on the Courses and Academic Policies FAQ page.

Tuition and Fees

  • A. Recognizing there will be fewer in-person student events and activities during spring 2021 due to continuing social distancing and other health and safety restrictions and guidance, the Student Government Association has recommended that the 2021 spring semester undergraduate Student Activity Fee be reduced by more than 50% from $230 to $110, as was done in Fall 2020. Stevens has accepted this recommendation. Updated eBilling statements were also issued to undergraduate students on December 5 listing this reduced amount. For more information on Student Activity Fees, visit here.

  • A. If a student is taking most or all classes online, or in the event Stevens makes a decision to move all courses and programs online to respond to governmental or health mandates, Stevens will continue to fulfill its academic mission and will not refund tuition dollars. Like most colleges and universities, revenues from tuition and fees alone do not cover the full cost of Stevens’ delivery of academic and co-curricular programming, including the necessary investments for financial aid and other student support services. We rely on additional funding sources such as private gifts, endowment returns and cost support from sponsored grants to balance our budget each year. With a move to a remote learning environment, Stevens’ most significant educational costs, including salaries for faculty and staff, continue at the same level. We are proud of the resilience and adaptability that our students, faculty and staff have demonstrated in making the successful transition to remote teaching and learning.

Campus Life

  • A. Students on campus can socialize, eat, and study throughout campus in a number of dedicated campus spaces, including lounge spaces, the library, and, weather permitting, the lawns and in large tents outfitted with tables and chairs. Social distancing guidelines must be maintained and masks are required, except while eating. Reservation systems are in place for use of the library, dining hall and other shared spaces.

  • A. While we understand there may be disappointment at the elimination of spring break, we made this decision with the best interest of our community’s health and safety in mind. Spring break presents an opportunity to travel – which in turn may bring exposure and spread of COVID-19 back to our community at Stevens and the Hoboken community, causing potentially broader outbreaks on our campus that could significantly impact the health of our community members and our ability to continue to offer classes on campus. A mid-semester day off will include a variety of relaxation programming both on campus and online. We have also lengthened Winter intersession and shortened the final exam period. All of these changes allow us to conclude the semester on the originally scheduled date.

Housing and Dining

  • A. Students wishing to switch from hybrid in-person to virtual learning for the Spring 2021 semester must inform the Registrar and will be permitted to cancel their Spring 2021 housing without a financial penalty if they do so by December 11, 2020 as an exception to stated Stevens Housing policies due to the pandemic. Your Spring 2021 housing cancellation form must be received by December 11, 2020 to qualify for this exception. Students who wish to cancel their housing for Spring 2021 should submit the housing cancellation form available on the myStevens Housing & Dining page.

  • A. The housing application will open on November 5 and applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority will be given to students who apply by December 11. Students applying for Spring 2021 housing are required to pay a $500 non-refundable housing deposit at the time the application is submitted. Students who apply for Stevens housing by the deadline will be informed whether they will receive Spring 2021 housing within one week of the submission of their application. Specific housing assignments will be communicated to first-year and transfer students no later than December 18, 2020. Details have been sent to students at their Stevens email address. For questions, contact [email protected].

  • A. Graduating seniors studying on campus may apply for a space in Stevens-Leased housing. Students applying for Spring 2021 housing are required to pay a $500 non-refundable housing deposit at the time the application is submitted. The housing application will open for seniors on November 5 and students applying by December 11th will receive priority. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The application is expected to close on December 18th but may remain open if spaces are still available.

  • A. New first-year graduate students enrolling at Stevens for Spring 2021 for hybrid in-person courses are eligible to apply for Stevens-Leased housing off campus. Students applying for Spring 2021 housing are required to pay a $500 non-refundable housing deposit at the time the application is submitted. The housing application for new graduate students taking hybrid in-person courses opens on December 18 and housing will be assigned on a first come first serve bases for as long as space is available.

  • A. If you travel to a ‘hot spot state’ or international location for the Winter Intersession that is listed on New Jersey’s travel advisory, you must quarantine immediately upon your arrival in New Jersey for 14 days and be tested for COVID-19 5-7 days into the quarantine period. Please note that this list changes often, so be mindful that anywhere you travel away from New Jersey may end up on this list prior to your return to campus. If you are residing in Stevens housing, Stevens Residential Education staff will reach out to you based on the information you provide before leaving for Winter Intersession if quarantine is necessary.

  • A. Students who will be living in Stevens housing in Spring 2021 with a home address in the states currently under the travel advisory must contact Kurtis Watkins, Associate Director of Residential Education, at [email protected] to coordinate an early arrival to quarantine on campus, or inform us of your quarantine plans. Students who need to quarantine upon arrival should plan to arrive on campus on January 14, 2021 between 9 AM and 5 PM.

  • A. Spring 2021 residential students who are required to do so may quarantine on-campus or can locate another quarantine location elsewhere in New Jersey or in another state that is not listed on New Jersey’s travel advisory at the time of quarantine. Some residential students may be able to quarantine in their assigned housing space, while others may need to quarantine in designated quarantine spaces provided by Stevens. There is no additional housing charge for students who need to arrive on January 14, 2021 to quarantine on campus, however students must cover the cost of their meals.

  • A. Stevens Dining delivers food to on-campus residence halls; however, these meals are not included in the Fall or Spring meal plans and must be purchased at an additional cost to the student. Students in quarantine may also accept deliveries from local restaurants and grocery stores.

  • A. Spring 2021 housing is not guaranteed for students not currently residing in Stevens Housing for fall 2020; it will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Fall 2020 residential students who are returning to Stevens housing for Spring 2021 are usually able to remain in the same room unless alternate arrangements are requested or additional rooms are required to increase the inventory available for quarantine.

  • A. No. Stevens-owned fraternity and sorority houses, the Lore-El Center for Women’s Leadership, and the CARE House will remain closed for Spring 2021.

  • A. Stevens has increased sanitization procedures. Masks must be worn in dining facilities except when eating or drinking. In-person dining will be permitted at some Stevens Dining locations with limited seating to allow for social distancing; reservations are required for seating in Pierce Dining Hall, but you may go at any time during operational hours for take-out food. Students can pre-order all meals for takeout, pickup or delivery to a campus building through Stevens Dining on the GrubHub app. Students can download GrubHub, select ‘add your Campus Card’ and login using Stevens credentials.

  • A. The costs of operating Stevens housing and dining remains the same despite the delayed start of classes in Spring 2021. In addition, housing will be available to students requiring quarantine in mid-January. On-campus housing and meal plan dates for Spring 2021 are Jan 29 – May 19.

  • A. Students residing in privately-owned fraternity or sorority houses are encouraged to consider health and safety measures before returning to their houses. Some privately-owned houses have chosen to close for the fall to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to align with the institutional plan. Stevens students living in privately-owned fraternity or sorority houses are required to adhere to the Stevens Health Honor Code and all Stevens policies and procedures.

  • A. In Spring 2020, when Stevens closed the residence halls, a pro-rated refund of housing and meal plans expenses was provided. Stevens expects to do the same if required to close residence halls in Spring 2021.

  • A. No. At this time, only new first-year students, transfer students and graduating seniors who select the StevensFlex/hybrid experience may live in Stevens housing.

  • A. If a new student who has chosen StevensFlex/hybrid learning option learns that all of their courses will be offered virtually, they may choose to remain in Stevens housing.

Health and Wellness

  • A. You can review the measures taken by the university on the health and safety guidelines page.

  • A. Offices of Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Disability Services are open and available to help with your transition to Stevens.
