Subject: Spring 2021 Availability in Stevens Leased Housing for Non-Graduating Returning Students
As you know, the pandemic continues to impact our region and our country and does not allow us to bring all students back to campus for in-person classes in Spring 2021. To promote the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff and to comply with guidance and restrictions from the State of NJ, our campus must be de-densified with significantly reduced occupancy in classrooms, labs, dining halls, study spaces, athletic facilities, and the library, among others. As a result, Stevens made the difficult decision to provide the option for hybrid classes only to new first years, new transfers, new graduate students, and undergraduates who are in their last semester of study and will graduate in May 2021 or August 2021. Non-graduating returning students whose first enrollment was before Fall 2020 must continue to study remotely.
Up until now, we have given priority for Stevens housing to students taking hybrid classes since they will be coming to campus regularly. As of December 18th, since we have availability in leased housing, we are able to offer off-campus leased housing units to non-graduating returning undergraduate students in their second, third and fourth years. Since we must follow NJ regulations to de-densify the campus and capacity in all common spaces on campus is significantly reduced, these non-graduating students who opt to live in Stevens off-campus leased housing will only be allowed on campus for their weekly COVID-19 testing. Due to limited capacity and social distancing in the dining halls, a meal plan will not be offered - however all units have kitchens and students may purchase DuckBills for use at local grocery stores and restaurants. Shuttle service is not available for Spring 2021 semester, as social distancing cannot be maintained within the shuttles. All Stevens leased housing apartments are within walking distance of campus.
Students assigned to Stevens Leased Housing in Spring 2021 will be granted a one-time discounted double occupancy rate of $6,000 per person for the Spring 2021 semester only. To access the housing application, please log on to the MyStevens Housing and Dining page. The Spring 2021 Housing Application is available now and is due by Friday, January 8, 2021. Housing assignments will be communicated by Tuesday, January 12th.
Residing in Stevens housing requires mandatory participation in weekly COVID-19 testing, limiting personal travel, and compliance with the Stevens Health Honor Code, the Student Code of Conduct, and all COVID-19 Policies and Procedures outlined in the Student Handbook. Students who violate the Stevens Health Honor Code will face sanctions up to and including a suspension from the campus and Stevens housing, and/or a suspension or expulsion from the institution.
Please note that these plans are subject to change based on health conditions and infection rates at Stevens and within the local community, as well as State and federal government guidance.
