New Guidance for Household COVID-19 Exposure
The CDC has released new guidelines for individuals who reside with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Regardless of vaccination status, if you are in this situation you should wear a mask when around others in the household, around the infected person, and when in public settings, including on campus. If you are fully vaccinated, you must: get tested 3-5 days after the first exposure; be retested 3-5 days after the infected person clears the 10-day isolation period; and wear a mask until 14 days indoors around all others after the infected person clears the 10-day isolation period or until final test comes back negative. If you are unvaccinated/exempt, you must: quarantine until 14 days after the infected person clears the 10-day isolation period; get tested immediately when you are identified as a close contact; get tested again 5-7 days after the infected person clears the 10-day isolation period, and return to campus only after receiving this last negative test.
To promote the continued health and safety of our community, Stevens is strongly encouraging all students, faculty and staff to receive the flu vaccine by November 6, 2021. To assist our community in meeting this goal, Stevens is offering on-campus flu vaccine clinics at no cost to the individual for those who pre-register. Stevens has arranged for Bergen New Bridge Medical Center to offer flu vaccines in the Bissinger Room, 4th Floor, Howe Center from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18 and Tuesday, November 2. Pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Click here to register and schedule your appointment. The flu vaccination is also widely available at medical offices, clinics, and pharmacies. For those in the Hoboken area who wish to get vaccinated, a list of local options for flu vaccinations can be found here.
On-Campus COVID-19 Testing Information
Weekly COVID-19 testing takes place on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Corcoran Room on the first floor of Gateway North. Any student, faculty or staff coming to campus who is exempt from the vaccine requirement or who is not yet fully vaccinated must participate in weekly COVID-19 testing. On-campus students, faculty and staff will be randomly selected to participate in weekly testing throughout the fall semester. Read more and register for a weekly test.
COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters
Those who received a Pfizer vaccine and who are 65 or older, adults with underlying medical conditions, and adults at increased risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their job (including educators and administrators at educational institutions) are now eligible for a Pfizer booster shot, if it has been at least six months since your second Pfizer shot. Stevens students, staff and faculty who meet these criteria are urged to get their booster shots as soon as possible. Vaccine appointments can be made at any existing vaccination location without a prescription. The CDC has announced they are evaluating the available data with urgency to make additional recommendations for people who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccines, as well as for other groups of people.
