Randomized Testing
Stevens will introduce randomized testing of the on-campus population beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, October 6, 2021, and continuing for the duration of the Fall 2021 semester. This protocol will augment the current campus testing requirements already in place. This initiative is to further increase the comfort level of on-campus faculty, staff and students.  On Thursday of each week, individuals selected at random will be notified by email to register and schedule an appointment for on-campus testing the following Wednesday. Stevens will cover all costs of the weekly randomized testing. There will be no change to the weekly testing requirement for those who have an approved exemption.

Weekly COVID Testing Information
Weekly COVID-19 testing takes place on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Corcoran Room on the first floor of Gateway North. Any student, faculty or staff coming to campus who is exempt from the vaccine requirement or who is not yet fully vaccinated must participate in weekly COVID-19 testing. On-campus students, faculty and staff will be randomly selected to participate in weekly testing during the fall semester. Read more and register for a weekly test.

COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters
Those who received a Pfizer vaccine and who are 65 or older, adults with underlying medical conditions, and adults at increased risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their job (including educators and administrators at educational institutions) are now eligible for a Pfizer booster shot, if it has been at least six months since your second Pfizer shot. Vaccine appointments can be made at any existing vaccination location without a prescription. The CDC has announced they are evaluating the available data with urgency to make additional recommendations for people who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccines, as well as for other groups of people. Stevens students, staff and faculty who meet these criteria are urged to get their booster shots as soon as possible.

Increasing Airflow by Opening Windows
Along with implementing HVAC enhancements to maximize filter efficiency and outside air intake, as Stevens has done, the CDC suggests opening windows to increase ventilation when outside conditions allow. According to the CDC, even a slightly open window can increase beneficial outdoor air. Faculty and staff are asked to consider this, particularly in higher occupancy rooms like classrooms and teaching labs, whenever possible and appropriate. Faculty and staff are responsible for closing the windows after room use.

Reporting COVID-19 Symptoms, Exposure or Positive Test Results
If any student, faculty or staff member experiences COVID-19 symptoms, tests positive for COVID-19, or has close contact with an individual who tests positive for COVID-19, please isolate and immediately contact Stevens Student Health Services at 201-216-5678 or [email protected].

Stevens COVID-19 Cases
Since the last email on September 28, five students and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19. The individuals who have tested positive are isolating and their close contacts have been notified.  Please see Stevens’ COVID-19 Dashboard for complete Fall 2021 data.
