Subject: IMPORTANT: Student Arrival Information for the Fall Semester

The fall semester will be here before you know it, and your arrival on campus during a global pandemic requires a bit more planning than ever before. Please be sure to read through this email carefully so that you are prepared to return to Stevens and enroll in fall courses. We are all very excited to welcome you to campus!

Vaccination Documentation Due by August 16, 2021

All students, except those with approved exemptions, must submit evidence of COVID-19 vaccination through Workday no later than August 16, 2021.

Students who do not submit their vaccination documentation or receive an authorized exemption by August 16 will be unenrolled from fall courses and their Stevens DuckCard will be deactivated; residential students will not be permitted to live in Stevens housing. See the FAQs for more information on this requirement. Student instructions are available and explain how to submit your documents through Workday.

Guidelines for Safe Travel

All students traveling to Stevens on public transportation (plane, train, bus, etc.) should exercise caution during travel. Specifically, travelers are asked to:

  • Wear a mask over the nose and mouth while traveling
  • Follow all state and local recommendations and requirements for mask wearing and social distancing
  • Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after travel; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms

Individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19, who are sick, who test positive for COVID-19, or who are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test should NOT travel. If traveling by plane, check in advance to determine if your airline requires any additional health information, testing or other documents and be sure to bring these items with you to the airport.

Post-Travel Quarantine Requirements

The following students must quarantine for seven full days upon arrival to New Jersey:

  • Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students traveling internationally
  • Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students traveling within the United States on public transportation (airplane, train or bus)

If you fall into one of the above categories and are living in Stevens Housing for the fall semester, you must email [email protected] immediately to coordinate your arrival and plan for an on-campus quarantine. Housing during the quarantine is available for residential students at no additional housing cost. Meals and groceries are available at your own expense from local restaurants and supermarkets; student meal plans for the fall semester begin on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Students arriving for a Pre-Orientation or Orientation program and who must quarantine should plan to arrive seven full days before their program is scheduled to begin to allow for in-person participation. Students who are not arriving for an Orientation program but need to quarantine should plan to arrive at least seven days before the first day of classes (classes begin on August 30).

Students living in private housing off-campus are responsible for coordinating their own quarantine upon arrival.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated students are permitted to leave quarantine to get a COVID-19 vaccine and should do so as soon as possible upon their arrival. Students are also permitted to leave quarantine to get the CDC-mandated COVID-19 test between 3-5 days after travel.

Pre-Arrival COVID-19 Testing for Exempt, Unvaccinated & Partially Vaccinated Students

Students with an approved exemption from the vaccination requirement, those who are arriving without vaccination or those arriving partially vaccinated are required to submit a negative COVID-19 viral test result online before returning to campus for the fall semester. The COVID-19 test must be taken within five days before coming to campus. Antibody tests will not be accepted. Please note that exempt students will not be permitted to move into Stevens housing or attend class without a negative pre-arrival test result already submitted to Stevens.

Students traveling by plane who must submit a negative COVID-19 test for travel purposes within three days of travel to meet CDC guidelines can submit those same test results to Stevens to meet this pre-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement.

Students who are fully vaccinated do not need to submit a pre-arrival COVID-19 test result.

Getting Vaccinated in Hoboken or Jersey City

Students who have yet to receive a vaccination and wish to be vaccinated near campus should consider the local vaccination options in Hoboken and Jersey City

Getting Vaccinated On-Campus

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center (BNBMC) will provide a COVID-19 Vaccination Program on campus for students coming to Stevens from international locations. Additional information and registration instructions are available online.

Fall 2021 Requirements for Exempt Students

Students with approved exemptions to the Stevens vaccine requirement are required to wear a mask in any indoor campus space or Stevens event, with the exception of private spaces such as residence hall rooms, personal offices, and individual restrooms.

Exempt students will also be required to participate in weekly on-campus COVID-19 testing. Students will begin testing for the fall semester the week of August 30th. The on-campus testing will be billed to your insurance company; any fees not covered by insurance will be paid for by Stevens. Students who miss a week of on-campus testing and therefore need to seek testing off-campus or students who choose to test off-campus are responsible for their testing costs. Specific instructions for on-campus testing will be provided to you later in August.

Exempt students may face additional requirements from Stevens that may include, but are not limited to, required testing, a temporary relocation of exempt students who are housed in Stevens residential properties, or exclusion of exempt students from classes, Stevens housing and co-curricular activities in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.
