Subject: Returning to Campus Information for All Students
The staff and faculty are anxiously awaiting the return of our students for the fall 2021 semester. As planning is underway for travel and arrival on campus, there are many federal and local requirements to consider in addition to Stevens guidelines. Please review the information in this announcement carefully before returning to campus.
Domestic Travel Guidelines Within the U.S. (determined by the US Centers for Disease Control)
Students who are traveling to Stevens from within the U.S. and who are fully vaccinated must:
- Wear a mask over the nose and mouth while traveling
- Follow all state and local recommendations and requirements for mask wearing and social distancing
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after travel; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms
- Testing is not required or recommended for fully vaccinated individuals traveling within the U.S.
Students who are NOT fully vaccinated (exempt from Stevens’ vaccination requirement) and are traveling to Stevens from within the U.S. must...
- Have a negative COVID-19 viral test result no more than 3 days before travel
- Wear a mask over the nose and mouth while traveling
- Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet/2 meters from anyone not traveling with you
- Wash your hands often while traveling
- Quarantine for seven full days after travel
- Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself and report the result immediately to Stevens Student Health Services
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms
Please note that individuals who have been exposed to COVID-19, who are sick, who test positive for COVID-19, or who are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test should NOT travel. If you have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months, follow all travel guidelines for fully vaccinated travelers. Check in advance to determine if your airline requires any additional health information, testing or other documents and be sure to bring these items with you to the airport if you are traveling by plane.
International Travel from Outside of the U.S.
Students who are arriving on campus for the fall 2021 semester from locations outside of the United States must take extra precautions before, during and after travel due to COVID risks and restrictions. Please review the announcement sent regarding arrival from outside of the U.S. for comprehensive details and guidance.
Stevens Vaccine Requirement
All students and full-time and part-time employees, including but not limited to faculty, full-time staff, adjuncts, and part-time staff whose program of study or work assignment requires them to be on campus for the Fall 2021 semester must be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine that has been authorized or granted emergency use authorization (EUA) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Students who are registered for programs that are fully online and will not come to campus are not covered by the vaccination requirement. Limited exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement will be considered for medical and religious reasons. See the FAQs for more information on this requirement.
Stevens will accept COVID-19 vaccines approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (“FDA”) or World Health Organization (“WHO”). As of today, July 12, 2021, the approved vaccines include those manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Janssen/J&J, AstraZeneca/Oxford/Covishield, Sinopharm (Beijing), and Sinovac-CoronaVac (Beijing). Please continue to monitor these lists regularly as vaccination approvals may change.
All students who have received all doses of the COVID-19 vaccine must submit evidence of the vaccination through Workday no later than August 16, 2021. Student instructions on how to submit your documents are available online. Stevens will keep individuals’ vaccination information confidential.
Please visit the Student Health Services Health and Immunization Records website for additional information.
Pre-Arrival COVID-19 Testing
Students with an approved exemption from the vaccination requirement are required to submit a negative COVID-19 viral test result online before returning to campus for the fall semester. The COVID-19 test must be taken within five days of arrival on-campus. Antibody tests will not be accepted. Vaccinated students do not need to submit a COVID-19 test result prior to their arrival on-campus.
A reminder that exempt students may face additional requirements from Stevens that may include, but are not limited to, required testing, a temporary relocation of exempt students who are housed in Stevens residential properties, or exclusion of exempt students from classes, Stevens housing and co-curricular activities in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.
