Subject: UPDATE on Spring 2022 Semester and Campus Operations

As we monitor the rapid spread of COVID-19, we continue to use the best available information to plan for a safe and productive Spring 2022 semester. In consideration of significantly increased infection rates in our area, as well as requirements imposed by the State of New Jersey for isolation and quarantine of infected individuals and close contacts, Stevens will:

  • Begin the semester as scheduled, with temporary, remote instruction for the period of January 18-30th; in-person learning is expected to resume on January 31, 2022.
  • Open campus residence halls for move-in between January 27-30th (changed from January 14-17th). Residential students should not plan to arrive before January 27th and will receive an email from Residential and Dining Services with further instructions
  • Extend remote work arrangements for eligible employees until January 31st; employees should confer with managers to confirm status.
  • Require a booster shot for all students, faculty and staff by January 31st or 30 days after testing positive for COVID-19. Special circumstances should be discussed with Student Health Services or the Division of Human Resources.
  • Require COVID-19 testing of all students, faculty and staff before returning to campus for the Spring 2022 semester. In the coming weeks, we will communicate further about testing upon return to campus.
  • Continue weekly testing for all individuals who have renewed vaccination exemptions for the Spring 2022 semester.
  • Increase required random testing of faculty, staff and students during the Spring 2022 semester.
  • Strongly encourage all meetings and events to move to a virtual format through January 31st.

As in the past, if any student, faculty or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, isolate and immediately contact Stevens Student Health Services at 201-216-5678 or [email protected]

Next Steps:

We will continue to monitor key public health metrics, including campus, Hoboken and State of New Jersey positivity rates, as well as the university’s capacity for isolation and quarantine for the Spring 2022 semester. These data will inform future updates to our academic and other programs, as needed.

We urge all members of the community to adhere to Stevens’ Health Honor Code and take all precautions to keep yourself and your family and friends safe.

We appreciate the cooperation of the entire Stevens community in adjusting to changed circumstances and evolving health conditions. With your continued support, we will meet the new challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented, and we hope to see you on campus soon.
