ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Cooperative Education Program
Cooperative education at Stevens is an exciting opportunity to expand upon and apply classroom theory in a professional work environment before you graduate. In its simplest terms, Co-Op is a five year academic program in which you alternate semesters of full time study and full time work experience in a professional work environment related to your major. Co-Op employers range from the giant multinational corporations to very small consulting firms any place in the United States. Some students have even worked abroad.

The Stevens Co-Op Program includes the first year spent at Stevens, completing the academic requirements of freshman year and preparing for the professional world of work. During the following three years, you alternate semesters of increasingly responsible work in industry and study at Stevens. The fifth (senior) year is then spent at Stevens. The Cooperative Education Office is located on the seventh floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center.
Junior Year Abroad
As a junior at Stevens one has available an international program with the University of Dundee. At Dundee in Scotland, UK tuition, room and board are paid to Stevens. Each person has to pay their own living expenses. Those in these programs receive full transfer credit for all courses taken abroad, provided prior approval has been given by the departments involved. For more information speak to Dean Cesmebasi in the Office of Undergraduate academics on the tenth floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center.
NYU Cross Enrollment
Under an arrangement negotiated between New York University and Stevens Institute of Technology, Stevens students can, with permission enroll for courses offered at the College of Arts and Science at NYU provided they have the required prerequisites. Such courses taken under this arrangement for credit toward the students undergraduate program at Stevens are available without charge. For more information please go to NYU Cross registration.
Pre-Med and Pre-Dentistry
Several Stevens students each year go on to successful careers in medicine. The way to start is to seek the guidance of the Health Professions Advisory Committee, headed by Dr. Nuran Kumbaraci of the Chemistry Department. Stevens Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) will guide you in preparing for admission to professional schools of medicine and dentistry. Any four year program at Stevens (B.A., B.E., B.S.) which includes one year each of general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biology with lab, physics, lab., math, and English satisfies the requirements for entry into U.S. medical and dental schools. These are only minimum requirements - most schools recommend additional courses. The national exams (MCAT, DAT) must be taken at the end of the junior year. Participation in summer research (see UPTAM) and community or hospital activities are strongly recommended.
Accelerated Three-Year Programs
Combined BS-DMD programs with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-New Jersey Medical School and New Jersey Dental School are open to selected high-school seniors. Students complete three years in the Accelerated Chemical Biology program and four years in the medical/dental school.

A combined BS-DDS program with Columbia University - School of Dental and Oral Surgery is offered to selected students in the Chemical Biology program at the end of the freshman year. Entry to the dental school is possible after completion of three years in the Accelerated Chemical Biology program.
Pre-Law
An accelerated pre-law program with New York Law School in Manhattan is available to Stevens students. High school seniors may apply for an accelerated three years at Stevens and three years at New York Law School to receive a six year dual degree program of a BE/JD, BS/JD or BA/JD. Incoming students are given guaranteed seats at New York Law School upon entry to Stevens. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA at Stevens and is not required to take the LSAT. This is the only arrangement of its kind in the country. Students at Stevens can major in any of our four programs of study (Comp. Sci., Hum., Eng., or Sci.).

Any Stevens freshman and sophomore interested in attending law school after graduation from Stevens, may apply "early" to New York Law School. Students with GPAs over 3.0 showing an interest in patent, environmental, or telecommunications law may get early notification from New York Law School as early as the end of the sophomore year regarding admissions.

Stevens has a full collection of Law School catalogs. In addition, there are several recent Stevens graduates who are more than willing to share their knowledge of the Law School application experience. Contact Professor Laccetti in the Humanities Department for more information on these programs in Pre-Law.
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)
The Air Force ROTC is available through cross enrollment at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. The Army ROTC is available through Seton Hall University in South Orange. Participation in both programs is voluntary and open to men and women.

ROTC offers a two and four year program. In the four year course, lecture and laboratory courses are taken in the freshman and sophomore years and a four week field training session is required between the sophomore and junior years. The two year program is taken during the junior and senior years and is identical to the final years of the four year course except that a six week field training course is required.

Students enrolled in ROTC in the first three undergraduate years are not required to enroll in physical education. Opportunities exist for ROTC scholarships covering tuition, lab and incidental fees and textbooks, along with a stipend.

When you successfully complete the ROTC program you may receive a commission as a second lieutenant. For further information on the Air Force ROTC program, contact the Department of Aerospace Studies at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey 07102 at 201-596-3626/3626. For information on the Army ROTC program, contact the Department of Military Science at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey at 201-763-3078 or 201-761-9446.
