The Center for Complex Adaptive Sociotechnological Systems (COMPASS) at Stevens Institute of Technology is a research center focusing on the study of complex sociotechnological (human-engineered) systems and organizations. The vision of COMPASS is to advance the state of knowledge in complex sociotechnological systems through contributions to the fundamental science of adaptive complexity and to emerge as one of the top centers nationally and internationally for complex systems research. The establishment of COMPASS at the School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) is a logical extension of the vision of the school to take its research activities in systems sciences to the next level. In addition to its research activities, the Center is involved in course development and community outreach related to its mission. As an interdisciplinary center brings together faculty with excelle us aspects of complex systems research and education and aims at exploring issues of critical interest to the nation and the world. Additionally, COMPASS faculty engage in extensive collaborations with complex systems scholars at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Virginia Tech on a continuous basis.
