The Applied Systems Thinking Institute (ASysT), is a collaborative endeavor of Analytic Services, Inc. (ANSER), and the School of Systems & Enterprises (SSE) at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Formed as a new research, development and education initiative, the ASysT Institute emphasizes the application of systems thinking principles to problems of national significance. The national security, homeland security, intelligence, and public safety communities face extraordinary challenges in creating and managing large-scale systems and enterprises. ASysT targets their educational, informational, and research needs.

ASysT is led by two Directors –Dr. Michael McGrath, Vice President for Systems and Operations Analysis at Analytical Services, Inc., and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Dr. Arthur Pyster, Distinguished Research Professor at Stevens and former Senior Vice President at SAIC and Deputy Chief Information Officer for the Federal Aviation Administration. Under their leadership, ASysT serves to advance the scientific basis, theoretical understanding, and practical impact of systems thinking through the development and delivery of:

  • GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES in systems thinking and related disciplines,
    including systems and enterprise architecting and governance, complex systems, and agile and resilient enterprises with an emphasis on the national security, homeland security and public safety domains;
  • EXECUTIVE SEMINARS and WORKSHOPS of tactical and strategic value
    to executives in the national security, homeland security, intelligence and public safety communities on topics relating to the principles and application of systems thinking and related discipline;
  • RESEARCH PROGRAMS focused where systems thinking and related disciplines intersect with the national security, homeland security, intelligence and public and safety domains.
