When will students find out about their housing assignments?
Housing assignments for new students will be emailed by the end of July. Upperclassmen who select a bed space during the room selection process receive their room assignment and roommates name during the spring semester. All other students will receive their assignment and roommate by August 10th.
How long are the beds? What kind of sheets will I need?
All the beds in the residence halls are twin beds and are 80 inches long. You will need extra long (80") twin bed sheets, which are available at retail stores.
What does a student do if he or she doesn’t like the room assignment?
The room change process begins after the second week of the semester until this time students should remain in their assigned room. During the room change process students can contact their Area Coordinators (ACs) to see what spaces are available to move to. Follow this link to complete the

Are pets allowed?
No. Pets are not permitted in Stevens Housing with exception of fish in a 10 gallon or less tank.
Are lofts allowed?
No. Lofts are not permitted.
Can furniture be removed from the room and replaced with my own?
No, the furniture provided is permanent and may not be removed from the rooms. Non-Stevens issued furniture is not permitted.
How often are rooms cleaned?
Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. Custodians are responsible for cleaning the public areas (hallways, common area kitchens, etc.) public restrooms and community bathrooms. Students with bathroom facilities in their individual rooms are responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms.
What does a student do if he or she has roommate problems?
We encourage all students to complete a roommate agreement within 2 weeks of a new assignment. We expect students to respectfully speak with their roommates and communicate in an effort to resolve any conflict. They may also contact their Resident Assistant (RA) or the Area Coordinator (AC) for their respective building, who may help mediate and attempt to resolve any roommate concerns.
Can students leave belongings in the room during break periods?
Students may leave their belongings in the room for the winter and spring breaks but not summer. We encourage students to take valuables home during times they are away since Stevens does not assume any responsibility for missing or damaged items.
Should students get insurance for belongings brought to campus?
Yes. Stevens is not liable for loss of or damage to personal belongings. We suggest that you check with your parents’ homeowner insurance carrier to make sure you have protection against loss or damage. We offer insurance for students through a special program at a low price.
What happens if my student’s belongings are damaged or stolen while in the residence halls?
Stevens is not responsible for student belongings. If you have items damaged or stolen you will file a police report with Stevens Campus Police and check with your insurance company about coverage.
Are there storage facilities available on campus?
No. Stevens does not have storage facilities. There are a variety of storage facilities in Hoboken that store items, should you wish to rent storage space.
Is cable TV service available in the rooms?
Yes. All campus rooms are supplied with basic cable service at no extra charge. Please note that you must supply your own coaxial cable. Premium channels can be purchased for on campus rooms at an additional charge. Here is the cable channel listing:
Are computer network ports available in each room?
Yes. All of the residence halls on campus are wired with a 100 Base-T (max transfer rate of 10 MBps) hardwire port to the Stevens computing network as well as WiFi access. Leased housing rooms have wireless internet service and a 4 port router. Any further questions can be answered by the Information Technology Help Desk at 201.216.5500.
Where can students do their laundry when living on campu
Each on campus residence hall has free laundry with washers and dryers in the building. Stevens Leased Housing have laundry service in the building or apartment.
Are students allowed to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room?
Yes, however only one (1) of each per room is permitted. The microwave cannot exceed 700 watts and the compact refrigerator 3.2 cubic feet.
Are the halls SECURED?
All residence hall exterior doors are locked 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The only students who have access to the building are those students who live in the building. We expect the residents of each building to assist in making it safe by not propping doors or giving access to non-residents.
Are there staff who live in the residence halls?
Yes. All Stevens Housing has (RAs) Resident Assistants living in the buildings. An RA is a trained upper-class student advisor and role model. RAs help students adapt to their living environment and support the mission of the Office of Residence Life. The RAs are supervised by (ACs) Area Coordinators who also live in Stevens housing and are accessible through the area offices.
How does the meal plan work?
The Ultimate meal plan allows continual access during hours of operation. The Flexible meal plan offers 15 meals a week and each meal is deducted from the total available weekly balance . Weekly meal balances replenish on Friday.
What are Duck Bills?
Duck Bills are a cash equivalent that can be utilized at any of our food or vending locations, Campus Bookstore or at select off-campus locations. Duck Bills are valued at one Duck Bill = one dollar and can be viewed and/or replenished at any time by going to
Can money be added to my Duck Bill account?
Yes. You can add cash to the VTS machine in the library, you can email
to have a charge billed to your student account, or visit
to use a debit/credit card.
Is the meal plan available during breaks such as Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break, etc.?
There is no food service during Thanksgiving and winter breaks. There may be no meal plan service or reduced services and hours for meal plan during Spring Break. Students may use their DuckBills at off campus restaurants. A complete list of off campus vendors can be found at
What do I do if there's something broken in my room?

forms. Please report repairs immediately.
How do I get back into my room if I am locked out and do not have my key?
The area offices are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you are locked out after 10 p.m. , please contact Campus Police at 201.216.5105 for assistance.
