Provost & University Vice President
George P. Korfiatis is currently Provost and University Vice President at Stevens Institute of Technology, acting as chief academic and budget officer of the Institute and the highest ranking university official after the President. Responsible for all academic departments, schools, colleges, and research centers, the Provost ensures that Stevens Institute of Technology maintains the culture and the human and physical infrastructure necessary to achieve its mission. In consultation with Academic Deans and the Faculty Council, the Provost also develops and sustains trans-disciplinary research communities, establishes all academic policies, oversees reviews of all academic units, and leads and implements strategic planning, pursuant to the Strategic Positioning Plan. The Provost works with the Vice President of Finance and Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer to manage the annual University-wide budget process, working closely with the other Vice Presidents, Deans and faculty, staff and student leadership.
Dr. Korfiatis received his M.Eng from Stevens, and while attending Rutgers University he earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Water Resources/Environmental Engineering. Previously, Dr. Korfiatis served as Dean of the Charles V. Schaefer Jr. School of Engineering at Stevens, where he implemented the environment of Technogenesis® where faculty and students work to enhance inventiveness, creativity and entrepreneurship as the core values of its educational foundation. Prior to that position he was the Founding Director of the Stevens Center for Environmental Engineering, where he managed research contracts valued in excess of $30 million. Dr. Korfiatis was also a co-founder of two Stevens Enterprise Companies: PlasmaSol Corp. and HydroGlobe LLC. Both companies have introduced technology in the marketplace and have been acquired by Fortune 500 companies.
Dr. Korfiatis has served as a consultant to numerous organizations in the areas of water resources, geohydrology, groundwater contamination, environmental, and geotechnical engineering. Over his career Dr. Korfiatis has been a member of and has served on numerous professional committees, boards, panels, and other posts for a variety of professional organizations. He is currently a member of the Scientific Review Board for the New Jersey Corporation for Advanced Technology, Founder and Chairman of the Conference Committee for the International Conference on Protection and Restoration of the Environment, and a member of the Advisory Board for Graduate Programs in Environmental Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
Dr. Korfiatis has authored numerous books, journal papers, book chapters, and more than 100 research reports. He is a reviewer for a variety of professional journals and organizations, including the ASCE Journal of Hydraulics, ASCE Journal of Environmental Engineering, and the ASCE Journal of Water Resources Management.
