Graduate Certificate in Maritime Systems Management and Entrepreneurship

Stevens Institute of Technology has developed a graduate certificate program in Maritime Systems Management and Entrepreneurship to address the industry’s current and future challenges. The program focuses on the management of the complex and constantly emerging technologies in the industry with an emphasis on using innovation and entrepreneurship to create new opportunities.

Maritime Systems Management and EntrepreneurshipThe program is housed in the Center for Maritime Systems.  The Center works to preserve and secure maritime resources and assets through collaborative knowledge development, innovation and invention, and education and training. This Center has become the world’s leader in delivering new knowledge, advanced technology, and education in support of the maritime community. It uniquely integrates the fields of naval architecture, coastal and ocean engineering, physical oceanography, marine hydrodynamics and maritime security to create a trans-disciplinary enterprise that can address both the highly-specialized issues confronting each discipline, as well as the more complex, integrated issues facing natural and man-made maritime systems.

The program prepares early and mid-career maritime managers to:

  • Manage larger operations;
  • Collaborate effectively with government and industry stakeholders;
  • Drive successful innovation;
  • Be promoted to posts of greater responsibility; and
  • Create new businesses.

The curriculum is focused on generating strategic value, and it reflects the interdisciplinary ethos that characterizes most graduate programs at Stevens Institute.  Moreover, courses are constantly reviewed, evaluated, and updated in response to industry needs, and they are taught by Stevens’ award-winning faculty members, all of whom are committed to students’ development as leaders in the maritime industry.  The graduate certificate program consists of four courses:

  • Project Management for Complex Systems
  • Advanced Marine Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Decision and Risk Analysis
  • Economic Issues, Business and Finance in Maritime Systems
