A Domestic Student is one who is a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (regardless of the location of the college you have attended). All others are international students. Those students in the country on visas other than F or J type visas are considered International Students, but need submit only the documents requested for a Domestic Student.
Those applying for an F-1 student visa are required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score and financial documents. Those currently holding an H-visa are not required to submit financial documents, but may need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. If you hold an H-visa, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions to find out if you must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score.
You are not required to send your financial documentation with the rest of your application materials; however, if you are accepted into Stevens and you did include your financial documents, you will receive your I-20 sooner than if you didn't include them. This is because we will need to contact you to ask for your documents upon your acceptance and wait to receive your documents before we can issue your I-20.
Please submit all documents together, if possible, as this will allow Graduate Admissions to submit the application package to the department for review as soon as possible. Official transcripts and Letters of Recommendation will need to be submitted in sealed envelopes. If official documents are unavailable, then unofficial documents can be used for the initial review, but you will not be fully admitted until official documents are submitted.
Your documents must be notarized, in U.S. Dollars, and no older than 6 months.
Stevens' International Student and Scholar Services Office will issue an I-20 to International Students once they have been accepted, official TOEFL scores have been received, and proof of financial support for 1 year's study at Stevens has been received. This is a US immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) requirement. Stevens cannot issue an I-20 without this proof, which may consist of a completed Financial Verification Form or an INS Affidavit of Support (I-134) accompanied by supporting bank documentation (see Financial Verification Form). You will receive your I-20 approximately 2 weeks after your acceptance into Stevens.
You will receive a letter from Stevens in the post mail informing you of your admission decision. Please make sure to submit the mailing address to which you would like your decision letter sent.
Stevens considers applicants’ credentials in their entirety and does not accept or reject applicants based solely on an official test score. We encourage you to apply if your other academic credentials, such as grades and recommendations, are very strong.
Will you accept a copy of my application materials (ex. transcript, test score reports) or do they have to be official? If official documents are unavailable, then unofficial documents can be used for the initial review, but you will not be fully admitted until official documents are submitted.
An official transcript is the record of grades and degree(s) earned, if any, sent directly to Stevens from the Registrar of the institution(s) you have attended. The Registrar may send the transcripts directly to you in sealed envelopes. Under no conditions may these be opened by you and submitted to Graduate Admissions and still be considered official. In some cases, the Registrar of the college may mark official transcripts sent to students as "Issued to Student", in which case they will be considered unofficial. In the case of some International Students, transcripts would consist of attested grade sheets and diploma. You, as the student, must request these documents from the institutions, and not the Office of Graduate Admissions, as to do otherwise would compromise the privacy of the records.
Stevens will accept copies only if they are officially attested copies in English. Attested copies are copies that have been witnessed/certified as being true copies of the originals. A Notary Public can assist in the process of attesting documents. Copies can be submitted for initial review, but you cannot be fully accepted until official documents have been submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
We will use your provisional certificate in order to evaluate your application; however, you will need to submit an official copy of your degree once you receive it.
Yes, all application materials must be in English. If your college will not translate your documents, you may consider contacting World Education Services (WES) to translate them for you.
Yes, we also accept IELTS scores.
No. We accept WES evaluations, but it is not required that you have your documents certified by them.
If you have completed the application process and have been accepted into Stevens, you may transfer from another school. If you are attending another U.S. university and want to transfer to Stevens, you must apply and be accepted in order to transfer.
Applications are evaluated by the Review Committee. The Office of Graduate Admissions receives the decision and informs each applicant via an official letter in the post mail.

Graduate admission at Stevens is conducted through a rolling admissions. International applicants are encouraged to apply by May 1 for the fall semester and October 15 for the spring intake to allow sufficient time for application processing and issuance of immigration documents. Any students applying for fellowships or assistantships must apply by February 1 for consideration for the fall semester.
The student will need to contact the academic departments and individual professors to discuss opportunities as Graduate/Teaching/Research assistants. There is no complulsion for a student to apply for an assistantship in his/her own department (for eg: if the student is qualified for an IT helpdesk job which involves a lot of working with computers, he/she sure can apply even if they are not from the Computer Science or Computer Engineering department).
A student can apply for an educational loan from the USA only if he has a relative or a friend (who has to be a US citizen) who can cosign the loan application form. An international student is eligible for an educational loan only from firms that do not require a federal aid grant (FAFSA). At this point, an international student is not eligible for a federal aid or any kind of grants from the University apart from assistantships.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows international students to participate in internships, cooperative education, or practicum's which are integral to their program of study. At Stevens, CPT is granted to students who have been in F-1 status for one full academic year and in conjunction with thesis or dissertation research, or on rare occasions when the work is required for all students in a particular course to meet a specific course requirement, and runs coincidentally with the start and ending dates of a semester. Optional Practical Training (OPT) is designed to provide you with an opportunity to gain actual employment experience in your chosen profession for a maximum of one year. Its purpose is to complement your academic work. You can receive 12 months OPT per progressive degree. For more information, please visit:http://www.stevens.edu/iss/employment.html
