FAQ’S (Frequently Asked Questions)
When will students find out about their housing assignments?
Housing assignments for new students will be emailed by the end of July. Upperclassmen who go through room selection receive their room assignment and roommates name during the spring semester. All other students will receive their assignment and roommate during the summer.hat do students do if they need to arrive before the scheduled check-in date?
How long are the beds? What kind of sheets will I need?
All the beds in the residence halls are twin beds and are 80 inches long. You will need extra long (80") twin bed sheets, which are available at retail stores.
What does a student do if he or she doesn’t like the room assignment?
We regret that we are unable to accept requests for room changes once assignments are emailed. The room change process begins after the second week of the semester. During the room change process students can contact their Area Coordinators (ACs) to see what spaces are available to move to. RAs and ACs are available to conduct effective mediation in the event of a roommate conflict.
Are pets allowed?
No. Pets are not permitted in the residence halls with exception of fish.
Are lofts allowed?
Yes. Lofts must be freestanding and be at least 2 feet below the sprinkler head. (no taller than 5 feet). If the loft, or any other non-Institute issued furniture is obstructive or interferes with the roommates equitable access to the room, it will have to be removed.
Can furniture be removed from the room and replaced with my own?
No, the furniture provided is permanent and may not be removed from the rooms.
How often are rooms cleaned?
Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms. Custodians are responsible for cleaning the public areas (hallways, common area kitchens, etc.) public restrooms and community bathrooms. Students with bathroom facilities in their individual rooms are responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms.
What does a student do if he or she has roommate problems?
We encourage students to contact their Resident Assistant (RA) or the Area Coordinator for their respective building who will attempt to mediate and resolve any roommate problems.
Can students leave belongings in the room during break periods?
Yes, students may leave belongings for the winter and spring breaks. While student rooms are typically accessed for maintenance purposes only, we do encourage students to take valuables home with them since Stevens does not assume any responsibility for missing items.
