Currently we have a small number of students who have reported flu like symptoms and they are all at home recovering. We have had a few students who thought they had the flu and it turned out they had another health issue so it is important that students go to the Student Health Center or their personal physician for evaluation. The flu is usually mild and individuals recover quickly. However, there have been cases of college age students, with underlying health conditions, who have become seriously ill. We are strongly recommending that all on-campus students who have symptoms go the Student Health Center.
Commuting students, Faculty and Staff should not come to campus if they believe they have the flu. They should seek guidance from their personal physician.
Faculty and staff who receive reports about ill students should forward that information to Maggie Cunning, Director of Student Health Services (mcunning).
In conclusion:
Faculty and staff should follow normal policy when reporting an absence. Students should notify their instructors and work with them directly to make up missed work.
Stevens is in close contact with local health officials about the availability and administration of the H1N1 vaccine. We will distribute information to the community as it become available.
