A written study plan is necessary for all students pursuing a degree. Registration for classes in your first semester at Stevens is permitted without a Study Plan. During the first semester you are expected to register in the core courses required for your degree and/or in any courses that were required and stipulated in your acceptance letter. Courses required for your degree are shown in the Graduate Catalog. Please send approved study plans to the Registrar's Office (Fax 201-216-8030) in order to enroll in future semesters.

You may modify your study plan at any time with the approval of your Faculty Advisor. Only courses shown on your approved study plan will count toward your degree requirements. Your most recent study plan needs to be on file.  Study plans and all other relevant documentation are available in the forms section of the Registrar's page or on the Graduate Admissions site.

If you expect to graduate this semester, please review our graduation information at http://www.stevens.edu/registrar/commencement/.

F-1/J-1 Visa Requirements

Students holding F-1 or J-1 Visas must enroll for a minimum of 9.0 credits and/or three courses each Fall or Spring semester unless one of the following circumstances exist and a Certification of full-time Enrollment form is approved and on file with the International Student and Scholars Services office:

The student will take the doctoral qualifying examinations within the next 4 months (approval by Director required).

The student is in the last semester and requires less than 9.0 credits to complete the degree (remaining credits for degree required).

Other special circumstances exist (approval by Academic Advisor or the Dean of the Graduate Studies required).

The Developmental English as a Second Language course can be considered as a course in defining a full-time load. Individuals enrolled in DE-10 (Intensive English) are considered to be full time students. Students taking courses at higher levels of Developmental English must take additional credits to be considered full time. Students must be approved for the Developmental English course and should verify the need for such a course by contacting the Office of International Student and Scholar Services in person on the 5th Floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center or via telephone at (201) 216-5189. New international students will be tested and placed in an appropriate course if not exempted.

Students hold F-1 or J-1 Visas are not required to be enrolled during the Summer Sessions.

Health Insurance Requirements

All full-time students and international students on a J-1 or F-1 visa are required to have health insurance. Copies of the insurance brochure are mailed to all full-time students. All full-time students are charged for health insurance unless proof of other health insurance is provided to Stevens and a waiver is obtained from Student Financial Services before the end of September. Health Insurance is also available to all part-time students. The brochure and rate information is available on the Web at http://www.stevens.edu/chs/insurance.htm.  Please review the brochure for payment information on dependent coverage. All J1 students must visit the Office of International Student and Scholar Services located on the 5th floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center.

Health Services Requirements

All new full time students are required to fill out a Student Health Record Form. More information can be found at the Health Services web site where you can find information on student immunization requirements and meningitis disease.

One of the many resources available to students is Health Services. These services include health promotion and disease prevention, care during acute and chronic phases of illness, and referrals to outside providers when appropriate.
