How do I apply to Stevens?
All students (domestic or international) can apply via mail or online. In addition, you will need to submit two Letters of Recommendation (PDF) , Official Transcripts from all colleges you have attended, and a $60 non-refundable application fee. This fee cannot be waived. International Students requesting a F or J type visa must also submit a Financial Verification Form (PDF) with supporting documentation, and request ETS to send TOEFL scores to Code # 2819. Some programs require the GRE or GMAT programs. Audit Students need only submit the application and the application fee
When is the application deadline?
Stevens does not have an application deadline, as we have a rolling admissions policy. Those Domestic Students who wish to start as soon as possible, but will not have all their application materials available 3 weeks before the start of the semester, can start as Provisional, Non-Matriculating Students. International Students should have all their application materials submitted at least 3 months before the start of the semester in order to have the necessary documents on hand to apply for a visa

Am I a Domestic Student or an International Student?
A Domestic Student is a student who is a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (regardless of the location of the colleges you have attended). All other students are International Students. Those students in the country on visas other than F or J type visas are considered International Students, but need submit only the documents requested for a Domestic Student
How long does the application process take?
Once Stevens has received all the necessary documents, the application will be forwarded the to the appropriate department(s) for review. It takes, on average, 2 to 3 weeks for the departments to make a decision. After which, Graduate Admissions will inform you of the decision by mail. It takes an additional week for the International Student Services office to prepare visa documentation for those students requesting that document
How can I speed up the application process?
Please submit all documents together, if possible, as this will allow Graduate Admissions to submit the application package to the department for review as soon as possible. Official Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation (PDF) will need to be submitted in sealed envelopes. If official documents are unavailable, then unofficial documents can be used for the initial review, but you will not be fully admitted until official documents are submitted
What is a Provisional, Non-Matriculating Student?
A Provisional, Non-Matriculating student is a Domestic Student that is allowed to enroll for one semester as an Non-Matriculating student while his/her application is being reviewed by the department. Enrollment as a Provisional, Non-Matriculating student does not guarantee acceptance into a program at Stevens
Can the application fee be waived or deferred?
The application fee is waived only for current Stevens students and Alumni and for special on-site (company based) programs. Otherwise, the application fee cannot be waived. The application fee cannot be deferred until after the admissions decision is made
How do I obtain an I-20 from Stevens?
Stevens' International Student and Scholar Services Office will issue an I-20 to International Students once they have been accepted, official TOEFL scores have been received, and proof of financial support for 1 year's study at Stevens has been received. This is a US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) requirement. Stevens cannot issue an I-20 without this proof, which may consist of a completed Financial Verification Form or an INS Affidavit of Support (I-134) accompanied by supporting bank documentation (see Financial Verification Form)

I would like to apply to a program, but my Bachelors degree is not in that discipline. Can I still apply to that program?
Yes. The department can accept exceptional students with backgrounds in other disciplines. The department will review your background and make recommendations regarding courses needed to correct deficiencies, if any
Can I apply for a Ph.D. program without a Master's degree (i.e. entering with a Bachelor's degree)?
Yes. However, in some cases you may be required to complete a Master's degree prior to full admission to a Ph.D. program
What is an Audit Student?
An Audit Student is a person taking courses for no reason other than for enrichment. No academic credit or grade is given to courses taken as an Audit student
What is a Non-Matriculating student?
A Non-Matriculating student is a person taking courses at Stevens without a degree objective. Typically a student does this for enrichment purposes with the possibility of using the courses towards a graduate degree in the future. Some students with acceptance conditions can be considered Non-Matriculating until the acceptance conditions have been fulfilled. Under normal conditions, you may take up to 4 courses (12 credits) as a Non-Matriculating student
What is a Graduate Certificate?
It is a 4 course, graduate level mini-program that allows students to get familiarized with a concentration without having to do a full Master's program (30 or 36 credits). Any credits earned towards a Graduate Certificate may be used towards a Master's degree
What is an Engineer degree?
It is a 60 credit degree, situated between a Master's (30 or 36 credits) and a Ph.D. (90 credits), designed to advance training beyond a Master's and to provide a modernization path for those people whose Master's are not current. The Engineer degree is offered in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
Are Stevens' graduate programs accredited?
Stevens, as a whole, is accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA-CHE). In addition, WebCampus.Stevens' online graduate courses are cosponsored by IEEE and ASME International. WebCampus.Stevens is also a partner institution of the Global Wireless Education Consortium (GWEC). The undergraduate programs in Engineering/Science and Computer Science are accredited by, respectively:

I am an International Student. Do I need to take the TOEFL test?
Yes you do, unless you are a citizen of or have earned an undergraduate or higher degree from a country where English is the native language, or other acceptable evidence of English proficiency is provided. In addition all accepted International Students, including those exempted from the TOEFL test, are required to take an English Competency examination administered by International Student Services before enrollment. Your performance on this examination determines whether non-credit Developmental English courses will be required
What is the TOEFL minimum score?
The nominal, minimum TOEFL score is 500 (Paper Based Test), 173 (Computer Based Test) and 61 (Internet Based Test) for all programs except Department of Computer Science and School of Technology Management programs. The Department of Computer Science and School of Technology Management require a nominal, minimum TOEFL score of 550 (Paper Based Test), 213 (Computer Based Test) or 79 (Internet Based Test)
I took the GRE/GMAT. Can the Verbal section of this exam substitute for the TOEFL?
No. The Verbal section of the GRE and GMAT exams test for different abilities than that of the TOEFL exam
Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT?
It depends on the program you are applying to. For more information on which programs require the GRE or GMAT, our program list also contains specific degree requirements, such as the need to take the GRE or GMAT, for each program
Is the GRE Subject Test required, or is the General Test sufficient?
None of the programs, except the Ph.D. program in Computer Science, require the Subject Test, so the General Test will suffice for those programs that require the GRE. However, if you have taken the Subject Test, there is no need for you to take the General Test
Is there a minimum GRE or GMAT score?
The minimum GMAT score is 500. Minimum GRE scores vary by department, so it is recommended that you contact your program of interest to ensure the most up-to-date information
What is an official transcript?
An official transcript is the record of grades and degree(s) earned, if any, sent directly to Stevens from the Registrar of the institution(s) you have attended. The Registrar may send the transcripts directly to you in sealed envelopes. Under no conditions may these be opened by you and submitted to Graduate Admissions and still be considered official. In some cases, the Registrar of the college may mark official transcripts sent to students as "Issued to Student", in which case they will be considered unofficial. In the case of some International Students, transcripts would consist of attested grade sheets and diploma. You, as the student, must request these documents from the institutions, and not the Office of Graduate Admissions, as to do otherwise would compromise the privacy of the records
My school only provides one copy of my transcripts and diploma. Can I submit copies of these items?
Stevens will accept copies only if they are officially attested copies in English. Attested copies are copies that have been witnessed/certified as being true copies of the originals. A Notary Public can assist in the process of attesting documents. Copies can be submitted for initial review, but you cannot be fully accepted until official documents have been submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions
Can I have my official documents attested by Graduate Admissions?
Unfortunately, the Office of Graduate Admissions is unable to attest official documents
From whom can I get a recommendation?
A person qualified to judge your capabilities to perform graduate work can do this for you. This includes former professors, current employers, supervisors, etc. You can use our Letter of Recommendation form or a letter from the person providing the recommendation
Can I get photocopies of the application documents in my Graduate Admissions file?
No. Once a document is submitted to Graduate Admissions, it becomes part of the Institute's files and cannot be photocopied nor returned. Files are available for inspection however, subject to Family, Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (Buckley Amendment) waivers
I am a Stevens Alumnus/Alumna. Do I have to request my Stevens transcripts from The Registrar?
No. The Office of Graduate Admissions will obtain your Stevens transcripts from The Registrar at no charge to you. Just make sure that you list Stevens as one of the institutes you have attended on the application
