Dr. Stephen T. Boswell comes from a family of engineers and has reached the heights of achievement in his field while serving as President and CEO of Boswell Engineering in South Hackensack, New Jersey.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 28 states, a licensed Site Remediation Professional in New Jersey and certified as a Structural Engineer by the National Structural Engineering Certification Board, and has helped make the region’s highways, bridges, trains, and communities safer and healthier for all of us.

    In 1987, Dr. Boswell assumed a leadership role at Boswell Engineering, which was founded in 1924 by his grandfather David and later directed by his father Howard.  The firm, which also maintains offices in White Plains and Albany, New York, has been involved in the design and construction management of many of the most important infrastructure and transportation projects in the tri-state area for decades, including projects for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the New York State Department of Transportation; the New York State Thruway Authority and numerous New Jersey counties and municipalities.
    
Dr. Boswell has received a number of significant honors during his career.  His awards and citations include the Bergen County Society of Professional Engineers' Engineer of the Year Award in 1993, the American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey's Member Recognition Award in 1994, the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers' Engineer of the Year Award in 1995, the American Society of Civil Engineers' North Jersey Branch Service to the People Award in 1995, the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers' Engineer of the Year Award in 1995, and the American Council of Engineering Companies' Community Service Award in 1997.  In 2004, Stevens Institute of Technology awarded Dr. Boswell the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. Entrepreneur Award, which recognizes an "individual who embodies the classic American spirit" and "one who has achieved recognized leadership by virtue of his or her raw talent and determination, and who is an achiever willing to take risks and assume responsibilities."

In addition to his engineering career, Dr. Boswell was a co-founder and is now lead independent Director of ConnectOne Bank. In February 2013, this eight-year-old bank became the first successful commercial bank initial public offering in New Jersey in ten years.

Dr. Boswell’s professional affiliations include election as a Fellow in both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Council of Engineering Companies. He is also a member of the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Federation.

Dr. Boswell has been active in leadership roles.  He is a member of the Board of Governors of Hackensack University Medical Center, New Jersey's top-rated medical center. He also serves as President of the Buehler Challenger and Science Foundation Board; a Board Member of the Alliance for Action, a non-partisan coalition of more than 2,500 business, professional, academic and government leaders; and a Board Member of the Foundation for Free Enterprise. He is a former member and President of the Wyckoff Board of Education.

Dr. Boswell has served continuously on the Stevens Board of Trustees since 2000. He formerly served as an adjunct professor in the departments of civil engineering at Stevens, as well as at New Jersey Institute of Technology. His philanthropy to Stevens has included support for athletics programs, the Kenneth J. Altorfer Academic Complex, the Babbio Center, and a scholarship fund supporting undergraduate engineering majors.

Dr. Boswell earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from New York University in 1974 and a master's degree in Biological Sciences from William Paterson College in 1976. He completed the Civil Engineer Degree at Stevens Institute of Technology in 1989 and a Stevens Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering in 1991.
