Commencement Week

 

There are a number of events, in preparation for commencement, that faculty and staff are invited to attend. Below are those events and specifics on each.

Graduate Awards Ceremony

The Graduate Awards Ceremony (or Provost Awards) is on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 5 PM at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic awards to graduating graduate students, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held on the EAS Lawn (Babbio Atrium if raining).

Undergraduate Awards Ceremony

The Undergraduate Awards Ceremony is on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 7 PM at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic and co-curricular awards to members of the graduating senior class, coordinated through the Office of Student Life.  Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held on the EAS Lawn (Babbio Atrium if raining).

Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

This recognition event is for all graduating doctoral degree candidates and held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 4:30 PM at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This event is coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and faculty advisors are invited to attend and participate.

GradFest 2016

The annual GradFest will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 starting at 5:30 PM on the lawns across campus (in case of rain, GradFest will be moved into Pierce Dining Room and Canavan Arena). GradFest 2016 will feature food, live music, giveaways and photo opportunities. All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate, and all are welcome, including parents, students and alumni.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement ceremonies will take place at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. There will be 2 ceremonies – the graduate ceremony for Ph.D. and Master's Degree candidates will be held at 11 AM, and the undergraduate ceremony for all Bachelor Degree candidates at 3 PM.

Faculty and Staff Arrival Time

Faculty and Staff members who are walking in the procession should arrive at the Meadowlands Expo Center NO LATER THAN 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. For those arriving in the morning, a light breakfast will be available, and your academic robes/regalia will be brought by the Campus Store to the conference room for robing. A lunch will be served between ceremonies for those attending both ceremonies.

Meadowlands Expo Center and Transportation

Meadowlands Expo Center offers complimentary parking located in parking lots near the facility. Stevens will offer complimentary bus service for graduating students from campus, as well as university faculty and staff. Further details on buses will be posted at a later date.

Academic Regalia

Faculty and Staff who are in the procession need to confirm attendance and verify that we have the correct academic regalia information. How to confirm your regalia will be posted at a later date. Faculty/staff robes will be completely handled by the Campus Store, and cannot be picked up in advance. They will be available at the Meadowlands Expo Center the morning of Commencement.
