There are a number of events, in preparation for commencement, that faculty and staff are invited to attend. Below are those events and specifics on each.
Graduate Awards Ceremony
The Graduate Awards Ceremony (or Provost Awards) is on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 4 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic awards to graduating graduate students, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held on the EAS Lawn (Babbio Atrium if raining).
Undergraduate Awards Ceremony
The Undergraduate Awards Ceremony is on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 4 p.m. DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This ceremony is the presentation of academic and co-curricular awards to members of the graduating senior class, coordinated through the Office of the Dean of Students. Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend, no RSVP necessary. After the ceremony, a reception will be held on the EAS Lawn (Babbio Atrium if raining).
Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony
This recognition event is for all graduating doctoral degree candidates and held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall. This event is coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs. Department directors and faculty advisors are invited to attend and participate.
The annual Graduation Festival will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 5 – 8 p.m. in Howe Center's Pierce Dining Hall and the Canavan Arena in the Schaefer Center. Each School and College will have a gathering area where the Class of 2015, both undergraduate and graduate, can meet and greet their respective faculty and staff members. GradFest 2015 will feature food, live music, giveaways and photo opportunities. All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate, and all are welcome, including parents, students and alumni.
There will be one commencement ceremony for both undergraduate and graduate students beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. It is scheduled to last approximately 3 hours.
Faculty and Staff Arrival Time
Faculty and Staff members who are walking in the procession should arrive at the Prudential Center no later than 7:45 a.m. Faculty will enter the Prudential Center at the Lafayette Tower, and robe in the Press Room. A light breakfast will be available, and your academic robes/regalia will be brought by the Campus Store to the Press Room for robing. Procession will start promptly at 9 a.m., and the ceremony will last approximately 3 hours.
Prudential Center and Transportation
Prudential Center is only 3 blocks from Penn Station and public transportation (PATH and NJ Transit) For those driving, parking for faculty/staff will be provided at the Prudential Center (further information TBA - carpooling is appreciated). Stevens is offering complimentary bus service for graduating students from campus, as well as university faculty and staff. Buses will leave campus from 6:30am-7:15am, and will return immediately following the ceremony. Tickets are required in both directions. To request HOBOKEN to NEWARK bus tickets, click here. The Prudential Center reserves the right to search any and all bags being brought onto the premises. Balloons are strictly prohibited.
Faculty and Staff who are in the procession need to confirm attendance and verify that we have the correct academic regalia information at www.herffjones.com/capgown/order using the following information: Customer #29008057000 and Order #3207013. Faculty/staff robes will be completely handled by the Campus Store, and cannot be picked up in advance.
