What events are taking place prior to the commencement ceremonies?

There are a number of events, in preparation for commencement, that faculty and staff are invited to attend.  Below are those events and specifics on each.

Graduate Awards Ceremony

Presentation of academic awards to graduating graduate students, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs.  Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend.

Undergraduate Awards Ceremony

Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 4 p.m. (Reception on EAS Lawn following)
DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall

Presentation of academic and co-curricular awards to members of the graduating senior class, coordinated through the Office of the Dean of Students.  Department directors and award presenters are invited to attend.

Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 4 p.m. (Champagne toast on EAS Lawn following ceremony)
DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall

Specialized recognition event for all graduating doctoral degree candidates, coordinated through the Office of Graduate Student Affairs.  Department directors and faculty advisors are invited to attend and participate.

Graduation Festival

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 5–8 p.m.
Lawns across the Stevens campus

Each School and College will have a gathering area where the Class of 2014, both undergraduate and graduate, can meet and greet their respective faculty and staff members.  All faculty members are asked to attend and participate.  The Festival will feature food, live music, giveaways and photo opportunities. 

 

When are the commencement ceremonies?

The Graduate Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 10 a.m.

The Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 3 p.m.

Both ceremonies will take place at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ.

 

If I plan on attending the commencement ceremonies, how do I travel to the IZOD Center?

We hope that most faculty will attend both undergraduate and graduate ceremonies.  Below is specific information concerning the three different arrival and travel options, if you plan on attending.

Both ceremonies

If you are driving directly to the IZOD Center, please arrive by 8:45 a.m.  Parking is free during the ceremonies.  Signs and traffic ushers will guide you to the correct parking area upon arrival.

If you plan on traveling with graduate students by charter bus, please gather in the Schaefer Center by 7:30 a.m.  Transport from the IZOD Center back to campus will be available after the undergraduate ceremony.

If you attend both ceremonies, lunch will be provided.

Graduate Ceremony Only

If you are driving directly to the IZOD Center, please arrive by 8:45 a.m.  Parking is free during the ceremonies.  Signs and traffic ushers will guide you to the correct parking area upon arrival.

If you plan on traveling with graduate students by charter bus, please gather in the Schaefer Center by 7:30 a.m.  Transport from the IZOD Center back to campus will be available after the graduate ceremony.

Undergraduate Ceremony Only

If you are driving directly to the IZOD Center, please arrive by 1:45 p.m.  Parking is free during the ceremonies.  Signs and traffic ushers will guide you to the correct parking area upon arrival.

If you plan on traveling with undergraduate students by chartered train from the Hoboken Terminal, please gather in the Schaefer Center by 11:30 a.m.  Transport by bus from the IZOD Center back to campus will be available after the undergraduate ceremony.

 

What can I bring into the IZOD Center?

You may bring small bags, but all bags will be searched at the door by the IZOD House Staff. The IZOD Center strictly prohibits balloons at any of their events, including graduation ceremonies.

 

Do I need to order my academic regalia (cap and gown)?

If you attended a commencement ceremony last year, your academic regalia will be ordered for you.  There is no need to place another order.

If you are a new faculty member or have not attended a Stevens commencement as a faculty member, you will need to place your academic regalia order online at www.herffjones.com/capgown/order using the following information:  Customer #29008057000 and Order #2582516.  You will be able to pick up your academic regalia from the Campus Bookstore in May (pick up dates will be announced soon).
