Be sure to have your resume critiqued by your Career Advisor for clarity and effectiveness.

A professionally written cover letter which has been tailored to the company and the position will greatly enhance your application and make you stand out amongst other applicants with similar credentials. The purpose of a cover letter is to grab the employer's attention so that they will want to learn more about you as a candidate. A cover letter must demonstrate a passion for the industry in which you are applying as well as articulate why you have an interest in a specific company. It also should answer the question, "Why are you the best for for this position?" In a clear and concise manner, your most relevant knowledge, skills and experiences should be highlighted. These can include the following: internships/co-ops, research expreience, class projects, technical skills and leadership roles.
