Abuouf, Woo and Hoffman Brothers Earn Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Award
In the May issue of Diverse Magazine, four student-athletes from Stevens Institute of Technology were named as 2008 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Athletes. From the men’s track and field teams, sophomore Mohamed Abuouf was a third-team selection as seniors Michael Hoffman and John Hoffman were both selected to the first-team. Junior Emily Woo from the women’s swimming team was the final Stevens recipient as she earned first-team honors.

• STEP (Stevens Technical Enrichment Program) is a network of interrelated programs, services and activities that promote and support the academic, personal and professional development of its undergraduate participants. The program serves a diverse group of students, the majority of whom are from low income and underrepresented backgrounds.
  
• Educational Opportunity Fund: The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund is one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful state-supported efforts to provide access to higher education for economically and educationally disadvantaged students.
  
• The Mathematics Immersion Program (MIP) is a summer enrichment program designed to help undergraduate students improve their mathematics skills, and broaden their use of computers as a learning tool. MIP is sponsored by the State of New Jersey, Commission on Higher Education, Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program and operated out of the office of the Stevens Technical Enrichment Program (STEP) at Stevens Institute of Technology. MIP was instituted in 1987 and since that time it has served over 300 students from at least 35 New Jersey colleges and universities.
  
• Stevens Office of Financial Aid: Stevens holds a strong commitment to a campus community that is both academically gifted and socially and economically diverse. We feel that no deserving student should be denied an opportunity to take advantage of what Stevens has to offer due to financial restraints on the student or his or her family. Our financial aid programs demonstrate that commitment.
