Pre-Orientation

At the end of this summer, you will meet new people, live away from home for the first time, and begin an intellectual journey that will lead you into your future. This time in your life is exciting and challenging, and we want you to begin that journey by spending it with people who share your interests beyond the classroom. These Pre-Orientation experiences will allow you to get to know some of your new classmates before classes even start, meet members of the Stevens faculty and administration, and take a new journey, all at the same time.

There's something for everyone!

Outdoor Adventure

Canoeing/camping – Explore Saranac Lake area, canoeing from lake to lake and camping on several islands.

Backpacking – Hike and camp in the area of Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in New York State and the northern most source of the Hudson River.

Mountain Biking – Bikes will be supplied during the four days of riding for all levels of ability. Students will camp in a base-camp area and be transported to Mt. Van Hoevenberg Bike Center, which was also the home of the 1980 Olympic bobsled competition.

Rock Climbing – Learn the basic climbing techniques and belay skills. However, if you already have experience, there’s plenty of routes to challenge all levels of ability. High thrills are in store for everyone on this trip! Rock climbing students will stay in a base-camp area and be transported to the climbing area.
