The departments of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs work together to enhance the overall student experience from first interaction with Stevens before applying for admission, all the way through Commencement and beyond. The division is the caretaker of the "whole" student, supplementing the academic side of the college experience with meaningful social, recreational, and professional opportunities that help them achieve their greatest potential. Ensuring a smooth transition from student to citizen includes making sure that our students are safe, have suitable housing, access to health and fitness resources, and are able complete registration, financial aid, and billing processes with ample support and guidance. The division takes a strong and communicative, student-centric approach to ensure the success of our students and the University as a whole.
In addition, various departments in the division dedicate resources to serving the larger Stevens community through fitness and recreation programs for local residents; safety programs and training; and participation in local events. The division is committed to the well-being of the entire Stevens community and all its constituents and serves as a resource to prospective students, current students, their families, alumni, partners in industry and government and the City of Hoboken alike.
Marybeth Murphy joined Stevens in April 2013 as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs after more than 30 years in university enrollment management and research and planning.
Most recently, Marybeth served as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City since 2009. As the college’s chief enrollment and student affairs officer, she was responsible for developing and managing strategic recruitment, improved retention and graduation initiatives, all student support services, and athletic, cultural and recreational activities. At FIT, she managed the Office of Admissions and Strategic Recruitment, the Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, International Student Advisors, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the Academic Advisement Center, as well as Student Affairs Offices including Athletics and Recreation, the Counseling Center, Disability Services, Health Services, Residential Life, Student Life, and the Dean of Students.
Prior to joining FIT, Murphy was Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management at Baruch College (CUNY). There she developed numerous student-centered initiatives, such as a new transfer service center and a new welcome center for all visitors to the campus.
Before Baruch, she served for 20 years in various roles at New York University, rising from the position of Financial Aid Counselor to Assistant Vice Provost and University Registrar. In that capacity, she was responsible for the $100 million university enrollment and financial aid policy planning process for NYU’s 14 schools and divisions. For six years, she was the university’s Director of Planning for Enrollment Services. She also worked closely with the directors of admissions, financial aid, housing, and student life when, for five years, she served as Director of Planning and Evaluation for the Division of Student Affairs and Services.
Marybeth holds a B.A. in English and Comparative Literature from Fairleigh Dickson University and a M.A. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University.
