Exciting developments in mathematical and computational cryptanalysis have renewed interest in exploring cutting-edge cryptographic methods. These new methods include public key cryptography based on hidden monomial systems and algebraic systems.
The Algebraic Cryptography Center investigates new techniques at the frontier of mathematics from computational algebra and their applications to practical problems in cryptography and cryptanalysis. One example of novel research is the problem of limitations in networking applications. Currently standardized cryptosystems, such as those based on integer factorization, have been successfully deployed for many computer applications. However, such systems have several characteristics that limit their use in high-performance networking applications.
Algebraic key establishment protocols based on the difficulty of solving equations over algebraic structures can be deployed as a theoretical basis for constructing public key cryptosystems. Our researchers focus on mathematical constructions that explore the effectiveness, security, and help in the evolution of asymmetric cryptosystems with efficient deployment properties.
Our researchers tackle computational problems in the following areas:
- Cryptanalysis of public key cryptosystems based on algebraic problems
- Theoretical development of generic complexity
- Application of generic complexity to the problem of testing the security of cryptosystems
