Project Background |
|
Encouraged by the successful retrieval of soil samples by the Phoenix Mars Lander, NASA has decided to include a small robot to retrieve rock samples in the next mission to Mars. The 2009 ASME Mars Rocks Competition has been designed to simulate the volume, mass, and energy restrictions that would will be encountered by NASA in this endeavor. The objective in the 2009 ASME Mars Rocks competition is to build a remote control vehicle designed to retrieve small rock samples and deliver them to a designated area. The vehicle has to be able to surmount small objects located between the rock locations and the delivery zone. The team that completes the objective the fastest and scores the most points wins the competition. |
