The Heavy Lift Cargo Plane competition is an annual competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to allow students to compete in a plane design and constructions project. The SAE sets different guidelines each year for the teams to follow in their design before meeting for the final competition. The goal is to design a plane in order to carry the maximum amount of cargo, while staying within the guidelines. |

Core Requirements · The plane shall be designed and built by students without involvement from professional engineers · The plane shall have a successful takeoff within 3 minutes and may have multiple attempts · The plane shall take off within the 200ft runway · The plane shall remain intact during the flight · The plane shall complete a 360° circuit of the field · The plane shall land within the 400ft runway · The plane shall takeoff and land intact to receive points for the flight attempt (expect for a broken propeller) · The plane shall have a fixed wing design · The free standing aircraft shall have a maximum combined length, width, and height of 175 inches · The plane shall weigh less than 55 pounds with payload and fuel · The plane shall be capable of carrying a payload block measuring 5”x5”x10” · The plane shall be powered by a single, unmodified O.S. .61FX with E 4010 Muffler · The radio transmitters shall meet the FCC and Academy of Model Aeronautics 1991 standard for frequencies assigned to model aircraft
