CONCEPT GENERATION:
The selection of design approaches helped determine what types of components, features or functions would be best utilized and which to avoid. A combination table was created to trace the different types of designs that can be created using the allowable design approaches. This provides a clearer idea of the possible combinations that can be created. It shows how the combinations differ from each other.
When the medication container is placed into the machine, it will require either the closure or container to be rotated in order to unscrew the closure from the container. In order to satisfy the variant height of the medication containers, either the container must be elevated to the top portion of the machine, or the top portion of the machine must be lowered to the closure. The machine can be either handheld or portable. A gripping mechanism is required to hold the container and closure in place while the machine operates. A power transmission for the grippers and vertical movement is necessary. A motion driver for the vertical movement would also be required. Four combination tables were generated to help constructively mold the design process and were then utilized to sketch the four preliminary conceptual designs. The sketches based on the combination tables and the combination tables are shown below.
