Stereolithography Models

Stereolithography models were fabricated: 8:1, 5:1 and 3:1 scaled.  Additional connecting wedges were fabricated to demonstrate the angles of the device.

Aluminum Working Prototype

An aluminum working prototype (close to full-scaled) was fabricated at the machine shop located in the basement of Burchard.  The device was modified, as seen in the following pictures.

Phase One: Deficient area in mandible is created.

View of deficient bone in mandible.

Phase Two: Osteotomy (cut in healthy bone) is created.

Phase Three: Osteotomy is prepared for device placement.

Phase Four: Device is placed on mandible.

Testing of Prototype

bulletSimulating forces in vivo
bulletOrthopedic rubber bands are applied to device to simulate distraction forces.
bulletDistract device by prescribed amount everyday to verify Ilizarov's Method.
bulletSawbones to be used as mock interface with stereolithography prototype.
