Stereolithography Models
Stereolithography models were fabricated: 8:1, 5:1 and 3:1 scaled.
Additional connecting wedges were fabricated to demonstrate the angles of the
device.

Aluminum Working Prototype
An aluminum working
prototype (close to full-scaled) was fabricated at the machine shop located in
the basement of Burchard. The device was modified,
as seen in the following pictures.
|
|
|
Phase One: Deficient area in mandible is created.

Phase Two: Osteotomy (cut in healthy bone) is created.
|
|
|
|
Phase Three: Osteotomy is prepared for device placement.

Testing of Prototype
 | Simulating forces in vivo
 | Orthopedic rubber bands are applied to device to simulate distraction
forces. |
 | Distract device by prescribed amount everyday to verify Ilizarov's
Method. |
|
 | Sawbones to be used as mock interface with stereolithography prototype. |
