Project Abstract

Our group has designed a new consumer product that can easily and safely lift a vehicle so it can be repaired or disassembled.  This is aimed primarily toward the non-professional “backyard mechanic” who would like to fix his/her own vehicle.

Actuation

Choosing the method of actuation took much research and analysis.  After some searching, the three obvious methods became mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic. The mechanical components are scissor jacks which are light weight and inexpensive.  The hydraulic version calls for a bottle jack which can handle large loads and in also inexpensive. Lastly, the pneumatic version is made up of a pressure cylinder and compressor which is complicated and possibly dangerous.
