Ph.D. Funding Opportunities

University funding for students in engineering and science is available through Fellowships , which are generally merit-based, and Assistantships , which provide working opportunities in research and instruction for Doctoral students.

Fellowships

  • Robert Crooks Stanley Graduate Stanley Fellowship - The Stanley Fellowship awards tuition and stipend to students, chosen by recommendation of the departments. Nominees must submit the application to their department directors for consideration, and must be U.S. citizens to apply.
  • Technogensis Fellowship - Following Stevens historic commitment to invention and innovation, the university has begun offering fellowships to outstanding candidates with backgrounds in the sciences, engineering, or management. The Technogenesis Fellowship is available to new, incoming Ph.D. students with a demonstrated commitment to entrepreneurship and technology research.

Assistantships

  • Teaching Assistantships - Doctoral students possessing excellent foundations in their disciplines make competitive candidates for TA positions at Stevens. Teaching experience is especially beneficial for students in pursuit of academic careers. TAs must possess strong English language skills and an understanding of the higher education system in the U.S. Applicants must check with their respective departments for available of Teaching Assistantships.
  • Research Assistantships - Funded faculty research generally requires the participation of one or more graduate students. RAs not only supplement their college costs, but also gain deep exposure to theory and techniques demanded by their projects. Stevens faculty administer many prestigious grants from government and private research funding sources, but RA position availability will of course fluctuate between departments and from year-to-year. Applicants must check with their respective departments for available of Research Assistantships.
